1492. What does this year signify for Muslim Americans?
This session from the 2007 MSA National Continental Conference held at the 44th ISNA Annual Convention in Chicago, IL takes a look at Columbus Day in a light unlike that which you learned about in elementary school.
Join Shaykh Yasir Qadhi, Sherman Jackson, Imam Zaid Shakir, Shaykh Mokhtar Maghraoui, and Shaykh Hamza Yusuf as they share their perspectives on Islam in America in light of the expedition of Christopher Columbus, Black suffering in America, interesting notes about American pastime games and sports, and more.

Sh. Dr. Yasir Qadhi is someone that believes that one's life should be judged by more than just academic degrees and scholastic accomplishments. Friends and foe alike acknowledge that one of his main weaknesses is ice-cream, which he seems to enjoy with a rather sinister passion. The highlight of his day is twirling his little girl (a.k.a. "my little princess") round and round in the air and watching her squeal with joy. A few tid-bits from his mundane life: Sh. Yasir has a Bachelors in Hadith and a Masters in Theology from Islamic University of Madinah, and a PhD in Islamic Studies from Yale University. He is an instructor and Dean of Academic Affairs at AlMaghrib, and the Resident Scholar of the Memphis Islamic Center.
Barakallahu feek for sharing. Also, you mentioned previously that you were planning to write an article about the ruling on hijrah and related issues. Are you still going to do it? And when are you going to continue with the series on salvific exclusivity?
Not meaning to put pressure on you on anything! I’m just eagerly awaiting to read them.
Yes brother. The monastary was a place in andalusia when the muslims controlled spain. The muslim fighters are called the mujahideen, and those that guard the posts, but are not out in the actual action (they are like the people who wait and watch the enemy, then warn when the enemy is approaching) – this was a place in andalusia where the ribaat took place, since Spain was always the land of Jihad fe Sabeelillah.
Mashallah!!!
Amazing cant wait wait to start them, but quick question do you know if they mention anything about native americans?
I know the States has a dwindling population of native americans. However in Canada, our first nations are significant population, that suffer from some of the worst social inequities in the country. Unfortunately thats an understatement.
I love to listen to your lectures and I like Al Maghrib and what your doing. But how can you speak on the same platform as Ahlul Bidaa (i.e Hamza Yusuf and his “crew”)? You claim to be on the Quran and Sunnah upon the understanding of the Salafu Salih and it is well known what the stance the Salaf had on Ahlul Bidaa. Im not trying to attack just been bothering me. From a concerned brother. <3

What did Sh. Yasir Qadhi say about this monastary exactly? Btw, does Rabida have anything to do with the Arabic word ribaat?
