ACTION ALERT! Sh. Ibrahim Dremali and Wife Arrested!

Published

*Please see the action alert at the bottom and do not rest until you have done your part!

When I read this news, I felt numb and helpless. Then I felt angry and now I feel that this is just another fitna from Allah for a man who has been subjected to trial after trial. Allah must have something special indeed for this man in the akhira, may Allah forgive him and reward him.

Just a few months ago, I met the man, Shaykh Ibrahim Dremali in Arlington, Texas. A man who could barely walk and open his eyes. A man who despite his sickness held a firm belief in His Lord and asked help of no one except Him.

And now this man has been arrested in a fashion usually only reserved for murderers and armed robbers. Sh. Dremali and his wife’s (Safaa Rashad Eissa) home was stormed by agents belonging to three different agencies! And what were the charges? That there was some fraud in the immigration/naturalization process! That his marriage to sister Safaa is a sham, the sister who he is living in Arlington, Texas with and has three children with! I would like to ask everyone to just think about it. Even if it was a sham, would authorities have taken such draconian actions with any other “average” person in America? Is it not obvious that this is associated with the continued harassment and injustices against our scholars?

What is more tragic and more saddening is that Sh. Ibrahim Dremali needs to stay put, to continue to receive his treatment, because he still has a long way to go before his health recovers. And if God forbid, Allah has not written recovery for him, may Allah protect him, then he is needed by his family right now and should NOT be wasting time, energy and money in sham criminal cases. What kind of shameless and heartless human beings would subject this man to this FURTHER horror?

CAIR Iowa has issued an action alert. It reminds people of why the imam is special, and that America NEEDS imams like Dremali, someone who has engaged in interfaith dialog, someone who has furthered the cause of peace, and someone who has been teaching the Muslims the correct understanding against extremism and terrorism.

Sh. Dremali is known to Senator Harkin. Harkin has appeared with him and supported his work in the past. So, it’s time for Senator Harkin to do the right thing and help stop this madness. Sh. Dremali is NOT in a condition to travel on a sham charge. PLEASE CALL HARKIN’S OFFICE TODAY!

PLEASE CALL TODAY!!! TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!!!!!!!

CAIR ALERT:

Council on American-Islamic Relations Iowa Chapter (CAIR-IA) URGENT APPEAL TO IOWA MUSLIMS:

IMAM IBRAHIM DREMALI ARRESTED. PLEASE CALL SENATOR HARKIN’S OFFICE IMMEDIATELY

Salaam alaikum:

Many of you may remember Imam Ibrahim Dremali who served as the Imam at the Islamic Center in Des Moines for many years before moving to Texas to take a teaching job. Many of you also may know that Imam Dremali has been battling cancer for the the past few years.

Recently, Imam Dremali completed his chemo, but is now in critical need of a liver transplant. His health is failing quickly; therefore, Imam Dremali cannot travel even a few blocks to make salah at the mosque where he lives in Arlington, Texas.

Last week, Imam Dremali was arrested by US Marshals and Immigration authorities who stormed his home. The charge? That his marriage to Sister Safah is a sham!!!

As a result of this arrest, Imam Dremali has been ordered to appear in Des Moines at Federal Court on October 20 DESPITE HIS CRITICAL HEALTH. Traveling such a distance will surely endanger him, if not speed his death!

Please CALL SENATOR HARKIN’S OFFICE TODAY AND ASK FOR HIS HELP TO STOP THE ORDERED APPEARANCE IN DES MOINES ON OCTOBER 20TH and HAVE THE CHARGES DROPPED!!!

TALKING POINTS:

* Imam Dremali’s health is critical and traveling such a distance will surely cause his condition to worsen.
* The charges against Imam Dremali and Safah are ridiculous! They have been married for years and have 3 children together.
* These ludicrous charges are absolutely the by-product of a vindictive grudge against Imam Dremali and Safah, and will surely find no basis in fact.
* Imam Dremali has been a vital source of interfaith relations and outreach in the Muslim community throughout the US, and has worked tirelessly against terrorism, extremism, and Islamophobia, building a solid foundation of friendship, caring, and cooperation between the major US religious groups, politicians, and civic communities.
* Imam Dremali is only one of a small handful of people who hold Ph.D.s in the US in Islamic Jurisprudence, and is therefore a vital resource for the US in interfaith, national, and international relations.
* Media and others accuse moderate Muslims of not speaking out or acting against terrorism or extremism. Imam Dremali did speak out–this heinous treatment is despite his activism.
* Imam Dremali’s arrest and persecution teaches a negative lesson for moderate Muslims that will keep them from speaking out against extremists or acts of terror committed in the Name of Islam.

Senator Harkin has appeared with and supported Imam Dremali in many events and endeavors, and on occasion voiced his appreciation of the work Imam Ibrahim Dremali has made his life’s work. We ask that Senator Harkin intercede IMMEDIATELY to stop this miscarriage of justice, and the possible death sentence for Imam Dremali.

I really feel sickened after this news, to be honest… Don’t these agencies have anything better to do? Like going after drug lords, Wallstreet investment bankers who defrauded people of billions, or any of the other crimes infesting our nation?

You can bet whoever concocted this conspiracy to arrest the shaykh has probably some ax to grind, and i wont be surprised if it has something to do with the shaykh’s support for Palestine.

Our nation? How sad subhanallah and yet ironic. May Allah open your eyes and mine and help the sheikh and his family in this time of fitnah.

May Allah also aid all the other shayukh that are imprisoned in “your” nation unjustly including the old and blind that are in 20+ hours lockdown each day for the last two decades or more.

I agree this is horrible and ridiculous, and I have no doubts about the Shaykhs marriage but in general let’s remember that in this society kids do not equal marriage, so the authorities are understandably suspicious, but of course the fashion is which this arrest took place is ridiculous and to think they would not acomadate a dying man is just disgusting, decency is truly dead.

      Are you seriously ok?

How can you even call him, ‘this man’ when he is a respectable shaykh?!! Also, where do you get such stupid statements from? Islam? This is not the first where I have heard Muslims utter such wasteful things. This Ummah is one body, you are either apart of it or not. When our fellow Muslims suffer, we are supposed to feel that pain and if you can’t, then that is a real shame and a loss for you, fid-dunya wal-aakhirah.

Please remember that there will come a day where you will stand before the King of all Kings and have to answer for what you just said. Repent and think properly before you speak again. Inna lillaahi wa inna ilayhi raji’oon.

Whatever happened to the ummah being one body? or the beleivers being merciful and compassiate to one another or better yet what happened to our walaa and baraa?

honestly sister(if you are a muslima even) that is the most insensitive hypocritical statement a person of Islam can say!! please double check who your alliance is with. The Muslims or the “land of the free” kuffar?

      Allah says:

“Verily the believers only are a brotherhood. So make reconciliation between your brothers and fear Allah that you may receive mercy.” (al Hujuraat 49:10)

      AND:

“The believing men and believing women are awliyaa of one another…” (at Tawbah 9:71)

may Allah destory and punish those who bother the shaykh and those who plot against the people of Tawheed!! Its not about defending Quds that he is arrested but his aqeedah especially in these times of ghurba and fitan. O Allah protect and have rahmaa on the people of tawheed and jihaad in this zaman al hawn, inaka Qaadirun ‘ala kulli shay’!

May Allah give him shifaa and give him patience and victory through these tribulations. Unfortunately it seems that anyone who speaks up for the rights of Palestinians in this country is ostracized-Muslim or non-Muslim. This act was done to humiliate him and may Allah punish those whose motives are to bring down the Muslims.

    Asalamoalaykum warahmatullah,

This is not only a trial for our beloved Shaykh and his wife who’s been tested but in reality it is a huge trial for the Muslim Ummah…He SWT is reminding us to strengthen ourselves, to unite and make duaa every single time such a thing takes place. But how many of us actually take constructive action? How can we even rest when someone else is suffering? Try making duaa for Muslims around the world and your own troubles will be removed , whose remedy most Muslims today seek in anti-depressants etc.

Ibn `Umar (May Allah bepleased with them) reported: Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “A Muslim is a brother of another Muslim. So he should not oppress him nor should he hand him over to (his satan or to his self which is inclined to evil). Whoever fulfills the needs of his brother, Allah will fulfill his needs; whoever removes the troubles of his brother, Allah will remove one of his troubles on the Day of Resurrection; and whoever covers up the fault of a Muslim, Allah will cover up his fault on the Day of Resurrection”.
    [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

O Allah disgrace us not at the hands of Shayateen and equip us with a sound heart to deal with our Qadr.Ameen.

My reply to “Muslimah” was before I filled out the form, but you’re right it does require a U.S. address. Unfortunately, I’ve looked all over the web, the only thing available is the contact form.

Since those outside of the U.S. can’t contact Senator Harkin, what you can do instead is spread the the article around so that U.S. residents can fill out the form insha’Allah.

May Allah help Shaykh Ibrahim Dremali, his wife, and all Muslims under going trials and tribulations. I believe what the original poster said, Allah must have something special for this Shaykh in the akhira.

I urge everyone to remember this hadith, which is Sahih al-Bukhari The Prophet (SAW) said, “No fatigue, nor disease, nor sorrow, nor sadness, nor hurt, nor distress befalls a Muslim, even if it were the prick he receives from a thorn, but that Allah expiates some of his sins for that.”

‘O Allah, there is no ease except in that which You have made easy, and You make the difficulty, if You wish, easy.’

‘The strong believer is better and more beloved to Allah, than the weak believer and there is goodness in both. Strive for that which will benefit you, seek help from Allah and do not despair. If a mishap should happen to befall you then do not say ‘ If only I had acted..such and such would have happened.’ Rather say: ‘Allah has decreed and what He wills He does.’ ………for verily ‘If’ lets in the work of the devil.’

When I heard this news I was saddened as well. Before I converted to Islam I used to visit the masjids in the areas and I heard some of the lectures the nights of Eid that Sheikh Dremali was giving, that night I converted to Islam and he was the one who helped me.

May Allah give Sheikh Dremali strength and endurance in his time of need and watch over his health and condition and make easy this test. Ameen.

    Assalamu alaykom all,
I am related to the sheikh. He will be ok. Imam Ahmad was arrested and
thrown in jail and as a result he became imamu ahlisunnah. Ibn Taymiyyah
was arrested and die in his cell and as a result he became sheikh al-islam.
You may hate something and Allah makes great good deal out of it. They can’t throw
him in a cell with his medical condition so may e he will be getting better attention
    with protection and security.

Allah subhanahu watala doesn’t forget his servants. And we think of sheikh Ibrahim
to be one of the servants of Allah Wala nuzzaki ala Allahi ahada.

We just need to make our best effort with the duaa and support to the best of our abilities
and leave the rest to sheikh’s Lord, He will take care of him more than anyone
    of us claim.

……One more reason to put our weigh for CAIR and should be an eye opener for the “lazy junk yards thinkers” who always propagate not to work in/within system where u r living and your generations would be living. The thing which can be accomplished by just sending one normal person to “a” reputable/respectable/law-abiding Shaikh’s house to confirm, they just made it a media circus and tried to show like they were capturing a “terrorist”, just to confirm “a marriage certificate….uhu.”. I suggest them to put all these people on the Texas state border, so we can save our kids from drugs, etc

  27. n

    October 18, 2010 at 11:40 AM

CAIR unfortunately refused to help him in an “immigration” matter. He does have other lawyers helping, so Alhamdulillah, something on that front. I am very disappointed with CAIR, after hearing this. I used to think very highly of them. The weight of CAIR would have probably helped a lot in this situation.

Sh. Ibrahim is awaiting a liver transplant and it’s ridiculous beyond words, that they (the organizations who arrested him) are putting him through this.

Please contact any newspapers/media you know to be sympathetic and not scare-mongers, there are some. Perhaps we should start writing to the President?

There is an alarming trend here. Any prominent imam who has migrated here is subject to harassment based on immigration paperwork reviews. (not a coincidence). Why is it that moderate imams like Abdullah Idress Ali are forced to return to Canada? There are also other imams whose citizenship applications are put on hold indefinitely. If they want to get rid of someone its as simple as finding (or fabricating) a mistake on their immigration paperwork.

    Salaam alaikum:

As you probably all know, Imam Dremali moved to Texas a couple of years ago, yet he is very much loved and respected by Iowa’s Muslim and interfaith community. Many from the non-Muslim community have contacted me to express their outrage and support for him and his wife, and to inquire regarding his health.

In contrast to a post from above, CAIR-Iowa is doing all we can to help. We’ve organized the mass calling campaign to Iowa’s Senator Harkin, and are forming a committee to meet with both Senators Harkin and Grassley. Additionally, I personally am speaking with Imam Dremali every couple of days to check on his condition and keep our constituents up-to-date. I’ve also asked an emissary (a Muslimah who lives nearby) to visit with his wife and comfort her. Please support Imam Dremali by calling, emailing and writing to Senators Harkin and Grassley. Their addresses can be found on CAIR-Iowa’s website: http://www.cair-iowa.org.

In his weakened state, Imam Dremali cannot take personal calls. I would ask all of you who share concern for him to make du’a for his health, and a quick end to this tribulation.

    May Allah reward your efforts,
    Miriam Amer

As salaamu alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh

It hasn’t been mentioned in the article or the posts (unless I missed them) that he and Sr. Safaa were both released the same day, a few hours after the initial arrest. It is being said that they arrested them simply to “reasonably” gain access to, and confiscate, his personal belongings. Which they did.

Brothers and sisters, this does not mean we can relax. The shaykh is still in need of your du`aa and your support, more-so now than ever before. The whole ordeal (agencies shutting down the block, barging into his house, guns out) has had a detrimental affect on the Shaykh’s already weakened body. He is in the hospital once again, severely ill.

Please, please, please. Constantly keep him in your most sincere du’aas my friends, as you would want others to make du`aa your brother, your sister, your father

    Jazaakum Allaahu Khayran

Is this confirmed? He’s been released? In the mean time, is there an updated plan of action?

As salaamu alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh

Please keep our Shaykh Ibrahim Dremali in your du’a. He is back in the hospital and his health now is worse than before. He can’t eat, his stomach is rejecting the food. We ask Allah Subhanah, the Most Powerful, Most Capable to have mercy on him and heal him and grant him patience and his family. Allaahumma ameen.

Brothers and sisters. Please take 3 minutes – 3 minutes – to ask Allaah sincerely, honestly, openly, and humbly, to cure our beloved shaykh, leaving no trace of sickness. When will we take du`aa seriously? And when will we take the health of our scholars seriously? And when will we TRULY treat them the way they DESERVE to be treated?
I pray we discover the answers to these questions before they are all gone.

“The people of knowledge, the scholars, can you imagine that, even the fish in the depths of the sea ask forgiveness for them. Can you think of any other group of people, where Allaah has favored them, that even the fish make dua for them? The people of knowledge, their lives we profit from, if they die we suffer a great loss .If we are neglectful, they are there to give us a reminder, why? Because they are Ahul-Dhikr.If we are ignorant, they are there to teach us because it’s their job. Nothing absolutely nothing ruffles the equanimity of their spirit. They have the capacity to cope with life’s circumstances. They have deep knowledge of Qur’aan and Sunnah thereby giving them tactical nous to change disturbance into order, to change danger into safety, to change destruction into survival, to change calamity into fortune. They do not obtain personal meaning or pleasure by seeking material possessions and thus they are not affected by avarice, licentiousness, and extravagance. They accept whatever happens to them, and what happens around them, they respond to life’s circumstances in a realistic and effective manner. The people of knowledge display tolerance and inner strength when dealing with others. Their actions are so well done, and are in accordance with Qur’aan and Sunnah, thus leaving no traces behind them: meaning-that when they do something, we don’t even notice that there was something done. It is said that perfect activity leaves no tracks behind it. EACH ONE TEACH ONE!” – thefiks.org

    Wake up friends.

May Allaah guide us all to His Path. Ameen thumma ameen.

Can anyone confirm the legitimacy of donating through the following link: http://www.dremalifoundation.com/? Who is Annie Lin, as that is who the money will go to according to the pay pal account?

If the Dremali Foundation was a registered non-profit instead of an LLC it would be easier to verify legitimacy.

    Jazak’allah.

Wa alaykumussalaam wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh

His health: Alhamdulillaah is all we can say and we make du`aa that Allaah gives him a full cure that leaves no trace of the illness behind. Ameen.

His wife and family are alright. As I mentioned previously, they were released shortly after they (he and his wife) were arrested, this was 1-2 months ago. His family is fine alhamdulillaah, please keep them in your du`aa as well.

A local brother has been uploading videos of the shaykh. Here is one from 2 weeks ago: http://www.youtube.com/user/towardsjannahvideos#p/u/5/lCzdX456tJQ
