Toqa Badran

Toqa Badran is a native New Yorker and PhD candidate at Georgetown Universityโ€™s Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies. She has an MA in Islamic studies from Columbia University, and a BA from the college in Political Science. Deeply interested in the linguistic effects of shared religious belief, namely Islam, she has studied language reform in Soviet Central Asia, Turkish and Uyghurโ€“ in addition to her native Arabic. Often, her work explores the maintenance of Islamic ethics within the violence of colonialism.
