Sh. Dr. Yasir Qadhi is someone that believes that one's life should be judged by more than just academic degrees and scholastic accomplishments. Friends and foe alike acknowledge that one of his main weaknesses is ice-cream, which he seems to enjoy with a rather sinister passion. The highlight of his day is twirling his little girl (a.k.a. "my little princess") round and round in the air and watching her squeal with joy. A few tid-bits from his mundane life: Sh. Yasir has a Bachelors in Hadith and a Masters in Theology from Islamic University of Madinah, and a PhD in Islamic Studies from Yale University. He is an instructor and Dean of Academic Affairs at AlMaghrib, and the Resident Scholar of the Memphis Islamic Center.

Did you manage to also record the other speakers’ lectures, such Sherman Jackson, Zaid Shakir, or Hamza Yuusf?

    Salaam alaykum Sh Yasir,

Appreciated the balance in this speech, both in recognizing the the wrongful action of the 9/11 attackers as well as recognizing the countless indignities heaped upon Muslims that led up to 9/11, and the many that have followed.

Also appreciated the point that when hardcore republicans disagree with government, it’s patriotic and american, but when Muslims point out foreign policy flaws, they’re essentially traitors who need to “go back to their country”, so to speak.

I would like to applaud Shaykh Yasir Qadi for his courage to speak out the truth about the condition and awakening calls of American Muslims after 9/11 and the American foreign policy. May Allah reward him and preserve him.
I wish that he can lay out some practical plans or blueprint for muslim organizations to come together to work for the common benefits. I personally think that American Muslims must be actively involved in the civil rights movement as well as politics in the US. It’s time for Muslims to form a National Muslim Party. Until we can vote as a block, we can not in any form or way shape the American policies..

    Shaykh,

I was there at the conference. Wallah I was very impressed with your lecture. It took courage to speak the truth in front of such a large gathering, and in front of the media and non-Muslims present, especially when so many other speakers were speaking in generics and not wanting to point out the problems of America.

Your approach was very balanced ma sha Allah.

There are those who criticize you from all sides as you pointed out, but I think many of your critics don’t listen fully to your speech. You clarified your position so clearly that I can’t imagine anyone who listens to it in its entirety, with an open mind, will have objections or criticisms.

Keep up the good work Shaykh and we ask Allah to bless you and your family.

Oh no! I didn’t realise this was a video; I could have watched it when I went out this morning. Ouch!

Now I’m stuck with this phone and terribly network. Double ouch!

Well, this time I’ll take the words of other commenters for it and give a thumb up.

BismiAllah MashAllah…I just got through half of the video and I have goosebumps from how powerful your message was Shaykh. May Allah SWT bless you with strength to continue your work and may He SWT protect you and your family from all harm and evil. Barakah Allahu Feek.

I have to run to class now but I can’t wait to hear the rest. I can’t stop saying MashAllah the messages are so clear, true, and compelling they are resonating in my mind.

    Shaykh Yasir, Assalam Alaikum,

I applaud you for a brave speech. But one thing that saddened me is that you have likened Awlaki to OBL. While I dont agree with the recent fatawa’s of Awlaki, it would have been better if you have not mentioned his name.

Anyways, may Allah preserve our scholars.

Why don’t scholars go and talk to the extremist factions of our community overseas? Why can’t there be a proper religious discussion on this, so that it can be put to rest?
