Looks like a lot of fun! You should post these on Facebook lol.

Why weren’t there so many people in some of the talks? Looked virtually empty in some of political talks…how does their workshop system work?

Why is Shaykh Yasir eating alone? The photo looks sad there I don know why. May Allah bless Ustadh Yasir. I love him for the sake of Allah and can remember passing nights lying on my bed listening to his lectures of Kitaabut-Tawheed all the way from South Asia.

Alhamdulliah it was good stuff – most of my time was at the AlMaghrib booth though :) – equally beneficial

    Assalamu Alaikum,

Two suggestion – as you are going to be rolling out many pictures, you should try using the gallery feature that comes with all WordPress account. That way, you can have a lot of pictures on one part and if someone is interested, they can click on it and see the full resolution. Also, there is a lightbox feature for WordPress (You can find it on Shaykh Google) that basically when one someonce clicks on an image, everything else becomes dim and the image becomes large on the same page and you can see the whole resolution.

One last advice is that if you already put a picture of a speaker, you don’t need to put another picture of him at the same workshop – what I mean is that like when Imam Johari was raising his hand, you put another picture that seems like it was taken two seconds later. It’s actually better and proably feels more professional when you just put one clear cut beautiful picture of him than two to three of the same pictures that are happening at the same moment. What many professional photographers do is that they have this feature where they press the button once and ten pictures are taken – each being taken per second so they have ten pictures of him slowly changing his posture. Now, they only put one picture in – not all ten! :)

Anyways, this was an awesome article as well as your preface and I can’t wait to see the rest! Jazakumullahu Khairan…

where is the infamous amad in these pictures?

  9. Amad

    December 1, 2008 at 9:21 PM

salam Nihal, the infamous Amad remains behind the scenes. Maybe I’ll come out of hiding once I have to struggle between the opinions of the length of beards, if you get my drift :)

Hidaya, estimated attendance, this is a wild guess… 1500-2000 I think. But don’t take my word for it.

What is the healthy marriage covenant? Stay tuned for a post on that… inshallah tomorrow hopefully.

Now, since I am doing all this MANA stuff for you all, I’d like you all to make a dua for me for my exams/papers this upcoming weekend. This has been, and will be a very tough week, may Allah make it easy…

yeah it seems they need to tweak the lectures times so that it doesnt have those empty seats, too many good talks going to waste. Attendance of 2000ish is not bad though.

    Assalaamu alaikum,

If anyone’s interested, I have loads of random shots of the “bazaar” part of the MANA conference.
I also attended, and participated in the Q&A session, of the Day 2 segment on Muslims & hip hop culture, where Imam Talib, br Hamza, sr. Yashmin and others were present.

I also have pictures of Imam Siraj Wahaj, albeit side-shots.

Alhamulillah, I feel MANA achieved some of its objectives, and there was baraka in the gatherings.

Ustadh YQ bonding with a man (TN) who bonds with people who think “immigrant” muslims run a “syndicate” and are responsible for opressing black muslims? And then “break dancing” being a face of “forging an American” muslim identity? What’s next? Binge parties?….Man “American islam” is really taking a wierd turn.

    -Edited. No stereotyping.

    Ibn Fellah,

Br. Tariq Nelson is a respected figure in the Muslim community. I think you are confusing him with AbdurRahman (singularvoice) who ran the syndicate theories. TN doesn’t agree with that sort of stereotyping and has been playing a positive role behind the scenes in building bridges between communities, not destroying them. I think it is in our interest to get facts straight before making accusations against our brothers.

As far as “break-dancing”, I just took a photo of Imam Zaid Shakir’s presentation. It was in a context that you are not aware of, so you should think twice before making judgments of what the photo’s context or implications were. Furthermore, photos are not endorsements of positions, they are merely relaying images of an event.

Yeh Mr. Amad maybe you should read my words again, I didn’t say TNelson said any such thing, rather:

who bonds with people who think “immigrant” muslims run a “syndicate” and are responsible for opressing black muslims?

Oh and next time on an islamic conference, if they bi ithnillah progress to actually doing a workshop on how to break and bop. Lemme know, I’d like to learn some moves. ;)

    December 3, 2008 at 6:56 PM

oh, so thats even worse… you are blaming YQ for bonding with a guy who bonds with someone else we don’t like (and who said that TN bonds with AR??). So, its like an isnad or something of “bad bondings”?? I mean isn’t this pure guilt by association, the type we decry when done of Muslims by the Islamophobes?

I t is so good to see all the Muslims that the Most Hon. Elijah Muhammad helped produced. I were not able to attend the conference, probably because I did not receive an invite, probably because I have not converted to from the teaching of the Hon. Elijah Muhammad. Yes foreign born believers do run a syndicate it is call ‘UNITY’. The Muslims of this country who happen to be Black suffer from what the Black Nation as a whole suffers from a ‘ LACK OF UNITY’. According to the Hon. Min. Louis Farrakhan this is a Universal Muslim Problem. I wonder why?

For the record, Sh. Yasir Qadhi and I ‘bonded’ long before that picture was taken and even before I was blogging.
