What a great initiative mashaAllah! Check out Global Deaf Muslims (www.globaldeafmuslim.org). Representatives presented at ISNA 2007 and subhanAllah it was a humbling and thought-provoking experience. One brother posed the question to the audience: Imagine being a righteous deaf brother who strives to attend Jumah every Friday, only to not be able to hear the khutbah. Imagine never hearing the Quran. The crowd was in tears. He called upon imams and others to learn to sign to benefit the hearing impaired.
Classes are at your local community college!

@ ibn masood
Learn how to in a way speak to our deaf brothers and sisters, as they can’t hear us we have to sign to them to…well communicate with them. I think it’s an awesome project, subhan’Allah i’ve never met someone before who is deaf, but i know i’ll meet someone someday. So this project is great and really makes me contemplate on what Allah ‘azza wa jall has given me. Alhamdulillah.

Subhanallah! This is amazing! I join the insane applause, as well.
My sister is deaf, but is able to hear with an implant; when it is turned off, she is deaf…when it is turned on, she is “hearing-impaired”. Although she doesn’t sign (she reads lips), we are both extremely interested in learning sign language.
