Dua’ Request for Shaykh Waleed Basyouni’s Son Yousuf

Published

We just found out that Shaykh Waleed hafidullah has posted some heart-breaking news on the AlMaghrib forums concerning his 4-year old son, Yousuf.

Yousuf was diagnosed with leukemia yesterday. The following from Shaykh Waleed via the Forums. Any videos (as suggested by Shaykh Waleed) can be sent to him via MM email (info at muslimmatters dot org) or link posted on the forum or here. In other words, MM is at Shaykh Waleed’s disposal for this purpose, as Shaykh Waleed is one of our dearest Shayookh in America. May Allah preserve the Shaykh, cure his son Yousuf completely, giving him complete Shifa’ and health. Ameen.

Alhamdulilah ala kuwli haal. Upon my return yesterday, our son Yousuf (4yrs old) was diagnosed with leukemia. I ask Allah The AlMighty, The Most Generous The Lord of the Great Throne to heal him by His Mercy… Healing with which will not leave any sickness behind. He is supposed to get several tests tomorrow so they can figure out what type of leukemia he has. I will update you all, inshaAllah, on his status. I’m sharing this information with you so we can all learn a lesson and take advantage of our health before our sickness because no one knows what might happen to him or to her. May Allah protect us all and cure those who are sick among us.

If any of you wish to send a video message to Yousuf to cheer him up it will be appreciated and loved by him!

Umm Yousuf and I have our hands full right now so the forum will be the best way for communication for us right now.

Finally, a special apology to Albuquerque for not being able to make it this weekend for Torch Bearers. I was looking forward to being the first one to teach in this new Qabeelah.

Allah put great love and mercy in our hearts for our children. Allah is the most merciful and most generous. In every situation we have to know that Allah loves our children more than us. In this moment, I pray ALLAH to give shifa to yousuf and cure him completely of the sickness. AMEN.

    Assalamu Alaykum,

Ameen to all the du’aa. But remember, it’s easy to sit and type a du’aa on a blog – I do it all the time. What would really mean a lot is to remember Yousuf in our du’aa, especially if we are able to pray qiyaam ul-layl, to add him to our du’aa.

May Allah enable us to do this, insha Allah!

May Allah him shifa quickly. I would if possible like to contact the family. My 5 year daughter was diagnosed with leukemia last August, and we have been undergoing treatment since then.

MashaAllah, the blessings of Allah have been countless since then, and despite having chemotheraphy everyday my daughter leads a normal life attending school etc……

The first month of treatment can be difficult as it is fairly intensive but brings the child into remission and the child loses hair etc, but after that depending on the protocol, the child leads a fairly normal life for the remainder of the treatment.

We have a further 15 months of chemotheraphy left, but Alhamdulillah she is doing fantastically and I have to keep reminding myself that she is being treated for cancer.

Because leukemia is the most common childhood cancer, doctors have been able to develop a very efficient protocol for it. When we stay at the cancer ward and see all the different types of cancer the kids are diagnosed with, SubhanAllah my husband and I cannot thank Allah enough that it is leukemia, as leukemia is the most treatable childhood cancer in this day.

I would say lots and lots and lots of dua and ruqyah on the child, this is what will InshaAllah give him a quick and easy cure.

I am sure the family will be getting lots of support from medical team, but it is alot of information to immediately take in. We have found in Uk the medical team to be very supportive but even then the best type of support was to contact other parents.

I will pray for him and ask my daughter to also.

May Allah (subhana wat’ala) continue to heal your daughter as well. Let us all include her as well as young Yousuf in our du’as.

    June 24, 2009 at 6:03 AM

I am really sorry to hear of your news! May Allah give him shifa.

I would really like to give you and your wife reassurance as our 5 year daughter was also diagnosed last August with leukemia. I can understand exactly what you are going through.

But I would like to reassure you that Leukemia is the most treatable childhood cancer of our times. Because so many children develop it, doctors with the mercy of Allah have develop a very efficient protocol for it.

My daughter is on a 2 year and 2 month treatment plan, she has Mashallah completed 10 months so far and has another 16 months to go. What I would like to tell you is that, despite me giving her chemotheraphy every night she MashAllah leads a perfectly normal life. She attends school full days, is reading and writing fluently, participates in all activities. Some days she gets tired and has to take it easy.

Allah has been so merciful that the side effects of the chemotheraphy are minimal. Most days I have to remind myself that she is a child being treated for cancer. This I feel is down to countless duas and ruqyah.

i am not saying its going to be an easy ride, the first month is particularly hard as it is intensive and aims to get child into remission. But after that it does get easy with the help of Allah, to the extent that now most days we forget she is on treatment.

When my husband and I are in the cancer ward with other families, we see all the different types of cancers the kids have. Not all the cancers i.e brain tumours, bone cancers etc have a good prognosis, it is then we truly thank Allah that it is leukemia.

InshaAllah you will get endless support from family, friends and the medical team, but for me the most invaluable support was being able to contact other families who had been through the same thing.

If you wish to at any time, yourself or your wife may contact me.

I will make dua for your son and also ask my daughter to.

Yusuf or Um yusuf could also read the Quran in tahajjud time…The .”Quran is a cure”…

    Surah muzzamil(ayah 4-6)
“Or a little more; and recite the Qur’n (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style “.
” Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word (i.e. obligations, legal laws, etc.)”.
“Verily, the rising by night (for Tahajjud prayer) is very hard and most potent and good for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (understanding) the Word (of Allh).”

Shaykh Waleed wrote this on the forums:

    Alhamdulilah in all situations.

First of all, we would like to say everyones response has really helped us to cope with the situation by your support, through your kind words and warm duas….reigniting the feeling that we are all one family in a time which family support is much needed and appreciated.

Today they ran some test to determine the kind of Leukemia he has. It is the Acute Lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). When I heard the name in the beginning my optimism first kicked in when I heard the word ‘cute’ He started his chemotherapy today and the treatment period will be 3 1/2 years. We will be able to go home at the beginning of next week as long as he responds well to the medications, inshaAllah. I ask Allah (swt) for everything to go good in Yousuf’s favor and to protect him from all evil. Yousuf is doing much better after the blood transfusions and getting a hang of the hospital environment. Yesterday we told Yousuf that hundreds of people were making dua for him and it was one of the very few smiles we got from him. He also watched the video message from Abdurrahman Murphy.

JazakaAllahu khairan to all of you and may Allah (swt) to cure those who are ill among us and to protect our health.

InsyaAllah Yousouf will survive. He is still very young. The probability of surviving is a lot higher the younger the patient is. I have a friend whose 9 year old son was also diagnosed with ALL 2.5 years ago. At first we were all pessimistic about the word leukimia. But here he is, almost three years later and almost done with his chemo. Alhamdulillah, we live in a country with advance medical science that would make all all humanly ‘ikhtiar’ possible. With ikhtiar and dua from everyone here, insyaAllah he will make it.

I had a lengthy conversation with the Shaykh. I thought I’d share some key points for his many well-wishers:

He is very thankful for all the dua’ and messages of support. Hopefully, he’ll have a special email account set up for people can send messages/videos directly soon. Meanwhile, please continue to use the Maghrib forums or if you are not registered, this post for the messages. If you have a video that you don’t want to have publicly displayed, you can email that to us and we’ll send it to him.

The prognosis for Yousuf is good walhamdulilah. His chemo treatment began yesterday, another stop today, and everyone is very optimistic for his recovery, a lengthy process as Sh. Waleed’s comment above indicated.

Yousuf is a brave kid (in addition to being very cute mashallah) and he is doing as well as a kid can be expected to. Of course this is all very difficult and heart-breaking, especially with someone as young as he. But in all affairs of the believers, there is mercy and forgiveness from Allah. Sh. Waleed’s spirit is as strong as ever. He asks for nothing except your prayers and good wishes. My family sent Yousuf a little video and I highly recommend that videos are the best way to give little Yousuf a little cheer. Inshallah, 10 years from now, this all will be only bad memory and those videos will continue to be a reminder of how everyone cared for him.
