SubhanAllah first it was hearing about IlmSummit from friends and reading the posts that had many of us longing to be in their place, but now seeing the pictures takes that longing to a whole different level. I pray that InshaAllah next time around both my husband and I can attend and be part of this amazing experience. Ameen

SubhanAllah, hearing and reading the stories of everyone who attended this year’s IlmSummit truly left a deep longing in the hearts of many to want to be part of this experience the next time around. I pray that both my husband and I can be among those blessed next time around InshaAllah. Ameen.

I would add that one event that comes close to having some of the sentiments described here… at least the years that I went, is Texas Dawah (TDC). It is of course totally different… more “relaxed”, more kid-friendly, but the environment… the brotherhood is reminiscent of what is TDC. Inshallah, I plan to go down to Houston for that this year… the same shayookh crowd should be there (YQ, Birjas, Basyouni, etc.)… and families can partake, which is a plus.
I think I’ll go to the summit too inshallah… if i can get in of course :)

i like tdc but its not even in the same category. its like comparing the free phone you get when you sign up to an iphone, or like comparing a toyota corolla to a bentley.. its nice, people like it, but its just a different league :)

Haytham, total ban man. I think if Sh. Waleed sees Omar’s comment, Omar will be the next fodder for the cereal-killer.
On a serious note, the two are completely different events. One is a learning/studying event focused on that, and much simpler to organize (in terms of logistics, not in terms of what is taught). The other is a family event designed as a vacation possibility, along with light learning and some depth for those serious. While the Summit was for an exclusive few “hard-cores”, TDC is for everyday Muslims. And I can tell you from feedback and being there, the feelings of brotherhood, the tears that were shed when people leave each other, were also trademark features of this conference. One cannot judge it based on just one meet that may have been designed a bit differently. So, Omar, your comparisons are unfair ;) , because you are comparing apples to oranges. Instead, the better and fairer analogy is that one is Lexus in the car category, the other is a Harley in the bike category.
We should promote both because it is in our best interest that both survive and thrive inshallah. We don’t have a good alternative to either really.

hey amad i agree with what ur saying, im not the one who first compared tdc to ilmsummit though!!! my point was that you cant compare them – maybe my analogy needs work :) but yes, tdc rocks, i think its one of the best (if not the best) conference in n. america – but its just a different animal from ilmsummit thats all :)

And Danish agreed with me, which is rare for any commentator on MM, so I definitely have to love him.

I had the pleasure of visiting IlmSummit and conducting a couple of sessions there. I have to say that I was blown away by what I saw and experienced. I was extremely pleased, amazed, and ultimately inspired by the Teachers, Students, and the environment at IlmSummit.
MashaAllah the Shuyookh were an embodiment of their Ilm and set a beuatiful example for all the students. They would spend hours on end answering questions and talking to the students. May Allah reward them for all their efforts and increase them in their knowledge and piety.
The environment established there was not only one of zeal for knowledge, but also Adab and spirituality.
The volunteers, or as they are called “Hosnatality”, were unbelievable. MashaAllah the above mentioned Br. Haytham was all over the place. He was there to greet me when I arrived (with a coke in hand), he was there with the handouts as I started class, he was there when I had room-key issues, and I met him just before I left. May Allah reward him and make him move to my area. Since everyone is sharing Haytham stories, I had the ummm…. let’s just say I was able to hear some of Br. Haytham’s very interesting poetry. Something like “2008 or…..”.
It was a huge step for higher Islamic learning in North America. May Allah make this the first of many great achievements for Almaghrib.
