2010 Brass Crescent  Awards nominations are open

Nominations open Monday, September 13 to Friday, October 8, 2010

JazakumAllah khair for everyone who has supported MM before and we hope you will take the time to nominate your favorite blog again, whichever it might be (of course we hope that you still take great pride in YOUR blog, muslimmatters.org : ) ).

Keep supporting MuslimMatters for the sake of Allah

Alhamdulillah, we're at over 850 supporters. Help us get to 900 supporters this month. All it takes is a small gift from a reader like you to keep us going, for just $2 / month.

The Prophet (SAW) has taught us the best of deeds are those that done consistently, even if they are small. Click here to support MuslimMatters with a monthly donation of $2 per month. Set it and collect blessings from Allah (swt) for the khayr you're supporting without thinking about it.

Awards are meaningful as they depict support by you, the readers. And they are an encouragement for the blogs and bloggers. While you are reviewing blog posts or series to nominate (one of the categories), add the following in your list to evaluate, but as always, don’t vote for it just because it’s on MM. Vote for your favorite post wherever it may be.

30-day test run for Makkah metro

Great news for future Hujjaj. One of the biggest problems is just getting between the key locations for Hajj. A successful metro operation might add another feather to the hat of good Saudi work to make hajj just a bit easier!

Looking for Muslim converts (sisters) for Master’s Project

My name is Alexandra Alper and I am a journalism school student who wants to do a  master’s project on women who are converting to Islam. One of the biggest misperceptions among anti-Muslim westerners is the notion that the koran advocates the mistreatment of women. Hearing women describe their reasons for converting would do much to counter this image. If you are a recent convert, are willing to be filmed, and live in or near New York, or know someone who fits that description, I would be much obliged for your help! Please call or email me by Friday, October 8th at the latest. Thank you so much!

Interesting…what exactly do you mean about the video? That organizations should cater to different needs in the community, or that they shouldn’t try to impose a certain culture on American Muslims? (i.e. Pakistani, Arab, etc.)
