So it's my turn to give the open thread thing a shot. Here's a few random thoughts and then a look back at some old Quran/Tafseer posts.

The Hussein '08 campaign is officially on. I hope Hillary is not the running mate, but I do hope she has input in the healthcare policy. I hope the Celtics win tonight (and the finals for that matter). For all those going for the Lakers .. astaghferullah how can you support a (alleged) rapist?!

As for the 'old is gold' posts, I want to take a quick look back at some tafseer related articles we have had,

What do you all think of this: Me without my hijab: Removing my head covering changed how I saw myself and the world. http://www.latimes.com/news/printedition/opinion/la-op-hussain8-2008jun08,0,621118.story

Hmmmmm… my thoughts on it are basically what I expressed in my last Hijaab post – it’s all about WHY you wear/ wore hijaab in the first place and how strong you were/ are in your emaan.

Regarding the LA Times article, it’s surprising how ignorant people can be about actually having the audacity to say that there is no verse in the Qur’an that says women aren’t obligated to cover. That is straight up BS.

    Surah an-Nur ayah 31 states:

“And say to the believing women that they cast down their looks and guard their private parts and do not display their ornaments except what appears thereof, and let them wear their head-coverings (khimars) over their bosoms (jaybs), and not display their ornaments except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands’ fathers, their sons, their husbands’ sons, their brothers or their brothers’ sons, or their sisters’ sons, or their women, or the slaves whom their right hands possess, or male servants free of physical needs, or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex; and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments.
And O ye Believers! Turn ye all together Towards Allah, that ye may attain Bliss” (Qur’an 24:31).

by the way, I was told that people may misinterpret the “BS”, i meant blasphemy, its a central-state thing :]

@AnonyMouse: I feel the same way about it and liked that article, btw.

The Quranic evidence for the head having to be covered is far more clear than the evidence for five daily prayers (as opposed to another nu8mber). Just shows how much we need hadeeth.
