I believe you don’t have to vote in each category if you don’t want to… Frankly I found voting in 1-2 categories difficult, due to the “progressive-factor”, if you catch my drift. On the other hand, I discovered some refreshing blogs that I previously didn’t know of, so I definitely thank the organizers for their effort in putting this together. I can imagine the hard work that goes into this.

I guess some people are a little more upfront about their reservations:

I think you (guys from muslimmatters.org, or ijtema.net) should start your own Muslim Bloggers Awards – u 2 sites in particular have much more credibility and clout than these ppl from the Brass Crescent Awards.

Besides we dont even know whos on the committee that nominates these potential winners – or what their criteria is!

    My picks:
    Best Blog: Tariq Nelson

Most deserving of wider recognition: Rolled-Up Trousers (Osama Saeed)

    Best Design: Hadithuna

Best Female Blogger: iMuslim’s blog (yes, I know she didn’t make the cut like a lot of other good blogs :) )… but I think I’d rather go for Nzingha just because she seems far better than one or two of the other ultra-progressive (if there is such a thing) bloggers, who almost represent the female version of Eteraz, who regularly deny some of the basics of Islamic beliefs… This is one category that had the most lopsided representation of certain views.

Best Post or Series: For Br. Naeem’s Workout Nafs and Qalb (which actually has useful information)

Best Group Blog: Our brothers at Austrolabe… interestingly Amir Butler shares his loyalties between us and Austrolabe, though the latter is more his territory.

And I would say that the “Best Ijtihad” category deserves a name-change or trashed forever, because none of the bloggers in it, esp. being dominated by progressives (not that 70% of the nominees in all categories are of the same ilk) are capable of ijtihad, let alone good at it.

I welcome the readers to make their own suggestions…
