My YouTube Qur’an Favorites from this Ramadan

Published

quran1Alhamdulillah one of the things I have found myself doing more this Ramadan is searching the YouTubes for Quran videos and recitation. I have posted my personal favorites below. There’s no particular rhyme or reason to these – they just happen to be ones I enjoyed. So check them out and feel free to post your YouTube Qur’an favorites.

One small thing before getting to that. With the last 10 nights approaching, I wanted to share this recording of a supplication from Witr done by Ahmed al-Ajmy. I got this recording roughly 6-8 years ago or so, and I listen to it every Ramadan. Something about it that’s just moving, and is hands down my favorite recording of supplications that I have heard.

The following is by far the BEST recitation from al-Afasy that I’ve EVER heard:

    Surah al-Hujuraat:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmZpaxejBBc

You may notice it sounds a bit different. It’s old school Mishari, older Mishari audios are much better IMO. Download the complete surah from islamway.com

    :)

Agreed…Old school Mishary is awesome mashaAllah.

I love this recitation and used it for myself for Surah Hujurat.

Although for some reason most versions of this particular recording you find like on aswatalislam and maybe islamway have a bitrate issue and he sounds a bit sped up. This YouTube version. however, has an almost perfectly corrected version.

al Hassan al Basree stated while clarifying the meaning of contemplating over the Qur-aan:

‘By Allah, it is not by memorizing its letters while neglecting the boundaries it has set, it has reached the point where a person would say, ‘I have read the whole Qur-an without dropping/neglecting even one of its letters.’

By Allah he has neglected all of it, you do not see the Qur-an in him, neither in mannerisms nor actions.

It reached the point where one of them said, ‘I can read a whole Surah in one breath.’ By Allah these are not the recitors of the Qur-an, nor are they scholars, nor are they the wise, or those who fear Allah. Since when have the reciters of the Qur-an been like this? May Allah not increase the likes of them amongst the people.’

I say [Shaikh ‘Abdur-Razaaq]: May Allah have mercy upon al Hassan, had he seen some of the reciters of our time, those who have been deceived by beautifying their voices and the letters of the Qur-an and chanting them, while they are negligent of and disregard its boundaries. Rather the people listening to them are also are taken by the proper pronunciation of the letters and the recital while being negligent of the meanings and contemplating over the speech of Allah.

This is not a criticism of correctly practicing the Tajweed of the Qur-an, chanting it and beautifying ones voice with it, it is only a criticism of going out of one’s way to properly pronounce its letters without caring or paying attention to the orders within it, the very reason why the Qur-an was revealed. It has reached the point where you do not see that they fear Allah, rather you do not see them acting upon the Qur-an, not in mannerisms nor actions.

You see a reciter from amongst them who has memorized the Glorious Qur-an, correctly pronouncing its letters yet he shaves his beard or lowers his garments beneath his ankles, rather you find him neglectful of the Salat, either all together or in congregation, amongst other forms of evil.

It has reached the point where one of them, and from Allah alone do we seek aid, opened up a party for a sinful woman by reciting some versus of the Qur-an, he recited the Qur-an in between her songs. High above is the speech of our Lord from being tarnished by the likes of these people, and it is sufficient for me to say what al Hassan, may Allaah have mercy upon him said,

‘Since when have the reciters of the Qur-an been like this? May Allah not increase the likes of them amongst the people.’

[Causes of the Increase and Decrease of Eemaan by Shaikh ‘Abdur Razzaaq ‘al-Abbaad]

Easily could’ve said “hey everyone, let’s not forget to follow the commands of the verses with as much passion as we listen to their beautiful recitation..”
