Calling All Readers, Writers, Researchers, and Professionals

Keep supporting MuslimMatters for the sake of Allah

Alhamdulillah, we're at over 850 supporters. Help us get to 900 supporters this month. All it takes is a small gift from a reader like you to keep us going, for just $2 / month.

The Prophet (SAW) has taught us the best of deeds are those that done consistently, even if they are small. Click here to support MuslimMatters with a monthly donation of $2 per month. Set it and collect blessings from Allah (swt) for the khayr you're supporting without thinking about it.

AlHamdulillaah, we at MM have built our reputation on the quality of our writing and the addressing of issues important and relevant to Muslims in the West – both popular and taboo. We aim to provide material which nourishes and refreshes the soul, raises awareness about our political and social situations, and practical Islamic methods of dealing with everyday social problems. With the Mercy of Allah, we believe that we have achieved at least some of these basic goals, and all success comes from Him. May He accept our deeds and purify our intentions, and aid us in continuing to seek His Pleasure by working for His Sake.

However, we are not content with our current state of affairs. The true Muslim seeks to excel in everything, to achieve ihsaan (perfection) in every aspect of our lives. So too do we at MM aim to increase the level of quality, production, and material that we present to our readers – but we can’t do it alone. Hence the title of this post: how can YOU help MM become bigger, better, and bolder than before?

From techies to newscasting; social, medical, and academic research; advertising and marketing; graphic designing and photojournalism… there are tons of departments in which you can contribute your skill sets and expertise to develop MM even further.

Here’s just a small taste of what we’re looking for:

IT

  • Site maintenance and upgrade. Keeping the site running smoothly without glitches and improving overall access.
  • Site development. What new features are available and would work well on MM? A hijri calendar widjet would be pretty spiffy!
  • PHP development.

Advertising & Marketing

Spreading the word about MM. Targeting different populations in a variety of ways, through different mediums.

  • Creative Designers. Graphic designers and advertising/ media specialists needed.
  • Advertising Representative. A couple people who will be dedicated to reaching out and approaching relevant clients for advertisement.

Special Projects

Specialists. We are deeply interested in anyone who has a background and/or current involvement in the fields of psychology, psychiatry, social work, education, and medicine. Senior students as well as professionals are welcome to contact us, to contribute information in order to tackle ‘sticky’ subjects such as mental illness, abuse (physical, mental/ verbal, sexual), homosexuality, stem cell research, etc.

Emergency Response Writers & new Associates. As many as available, dedicated to highlighting and briefly commenting on news stories, current events or blog generalists. Pls submit a sample article along with your interest.  All posts are approved by shura before publication.

French-language Writers. Insha’Allah, MM is planning to branch out and reach the French-speaking Ummah as well. French-speaking writers are needed to help develop this MM sub-site, including translation and original articles and other media content.

MM Librarians. Insha’Allah another project idea is that of having an MM library. The goal would be to compile “timeless” scholarly articles, turn them into professional PDFs, and make them available in another webpage on the site – the MM Library. MM Librarians would scour the site for articles suitable for the library, and work with the tech experts to create a snazzy and professional PDF for each article or series of articles, and add them to the Library webpage.

May Allah increase you in goodness.

May Allah have mercy on the Muslims of China, reward the shuhadaa amongst them, and end their oppression. Hope to learn more about their plight on your site soon inshaAllah.

    Assalam aalikum wa rahmatullah,

Its not 100%, there are some bugs in it still…..but perhaps Muslim Matters would like this nifty PHP code I’ve been working on

    http://www.romanizedarabic.com

Actually, the entire idea was inspired by an MM article. Alas, I haven’t worked on it in months now, but its pretty cool. Go to http://www.ayaat.com and copy-paste an ayah into the forum, click “Library of Congress system” and hit submit. It also only works on Firefox or Chrome.

MR let other share in the khayr. Don’t dominate everything, its tiring to see the same brothers running everything.

Giving others opportunities is a quick way of creating stronger Muslims. It forces them to develop and learn. Its the fastest way to build stronger brothers and sister.

    so VOLUNTEER all of you!

Would MuslimMatters want a daily account of the Viva Palestina USA convoy? I work for Viva Palestina, and am located in southern California, and we want to get the word out about what they’re doing – esp. once they start heading to Gaza. Currently they are in Cairo purchasing medical supplies.

I can also arrange for a phone interview with the contingent attendees, including lawyers and Galloway. So let me know!

You can check out my blog for my writing style, and if you would prefer to have an MM associate write, I don’t mind coordinating with them. We just need to get the word out ASAP.

    jazkaum Allahu khayran!

    Salam Alaykum,

I am majoring in French..but I’ve only just completed my first year of college. I believe I am proficient enough to translate articles, but maybe not at the level of writing my own in French yet… If you need any help let me know.

    Salam Alaykum

I’m a fourth year medical student, could sign up for one of those medicine-related posts but it suddenly does sound like a lot of responsibility to talk about medical topics, the controversial ones I mean, in relation to Islam. What exactly is MM looking for? Content that is based on common medical topics related to Islam or the trickiers (you said ‘sticky’) ones alone.

On second thought, there are issues that would initiate much needed discussion. For example, to what extent can a Muslim lady, as a doctor, interaci with her adult, male patients? It is a dilemma I face very often, as I sure other medical students/doctors do when dealing with memebers of the opposite gender.

I would love to write for MuslimMatters, of course, not sure if I have anything to say. Whenever I read and article I have no comment, everything I would want to say, has been said or commented.

The only thing with me..which can be a con or pro….I’m 14, almost 15. I have a blog: themuslimkid.blogspot.com. I’ve had it for a year and have some regular readers but I mostly write about problems faced by the youth (even younger than the traditional youth ages 21 and beyond). I write about the problems faced by Muslim teens in high school, and in general the academic world.

I think it would be cool, I’m sure that MM has a young teen audience, I know people myself and in fact I think it would be a nice way to attract some readers too.

Ive had friends say to me, “All those blog sites you read, most of those people are like in thier twenties, going to university, how do you relate to them?” In some respects there right.

But ya, if anything can be worked out, you can reach me at: faiquemoqeet@gmail.com or themuslimkid.blogspot.com.

If you need a sample of my writing, just check out my blog.

Salaams, this is a great idea.
I’d like to volunteer in whatever capacity I can/you see fit. I’m currently researching genetic causes of mental retardation in children as part of my doctoral thesis in a very well known Uni (Canada). I’m also organizing, entirely by the Grace of Allah, a talk series with experts on Islamic Finance and Islamic Ethics in Medical Research to be held at my University. I would appreciate some publicity on this and would also be happy to report the entire for you [I held a few jobs before as a rappoteur for various organizations, international and otherwise].
Please let me know if you are interested and thanks for the call!

Assalaamu alaykum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuhu,

I’m currently enrolled in a postgraduate studies program in psychology, and I am an assistant lecturer in two psychology-related subjects at a local faculty in Sarajevo, Bosnia. I could provide more info in a private e-mail correspondence. If you’re interested, I could write about things related to fields of psychology of communication, personality psychology and psychology of religion. Please let me know what you think.

You’re Islamic Arts Feature gave me what I think is an interesting idea; why not organize such a contest in the most Islamic of all artistic forms of expression, poetry? I would be very interested to contribute there as well.

    Wassalaam.
