MM is over a year old, and over this year, we have received, and in many cases implemented, various suggestions from our most valuable asset– YOU.
Now, we would like to officially tap into the minds of our readership and understand where we are lacking, where we are good, how we should grow, etc.
Keep supporting MuslimMatters for the sake of Allah
Alhamdulillah, we're at over 850 supporters. Help us get to 900 supporters this month. All it takes is a small gift from a reader like you to keep us going, for just $2 / month.
The following survey will take about 5 minutes of your time– 5 valuable minutes for us. If you believe in MM, or if you have a beef with MM, or if you have criticism or praise of any kind; well then this is your opportunity! Please show us you care (or don’t), and take a few minutes to complete this survey. Pretty please :) :
All feedback will be anonymous, unless otherwise requested.
Here’s some moving feedback from a blind brother (name withheld on request) on the “learn to sign” project (in partnership with MM), that we hope will encourage everyone to participate in our little effort too, so we can continue to disseminate our message far and wide:
Bismi Allahu Ar-rahman Ar-rahim
assalamu Allaykum brothers and sisters,
I hope all of you are in good health and, of course, in peace! I am a brother, 18 years old. I was born in turkey in 1990, and I emigrated to the united states at the age of 6. I am one year away from graduating from a high school in New York, and moving on to college to study either law or comparative religion, inshallah. I have rarely participated in any type of activity, in or out of school. However, this is not do to a lack of enthusiasm, but more to the fact that it is very difficult to get me out of my shell; a thing that I am beginning to change, inshallah.
I am blind, and I use a screen reader to surf the web. This is why I generally prefer audio lectures to listening to a mechanical voice read articles or books for me. I have a high respect for Sheikh ul Islam ibn tamiya, ibn al Qayyim as well as imam Mohammed bin Abd Al-Wahhab (who’s kitab at-tawhid, I have recently begun to read, along with bukhari).
I hope to give as much as I can to this project, inshallah. I found about this project, from a blog post by a sister from the Muslim Matters blog, who bears the name or pen-name, iMuslim. May allah grant her Jannat al-firdaws along with those who started this effort.

The one thing I suggest is having an “Activism Meter” or something that basically keeps MM focused on real, verifiable and effective activism. There are enough bloggers out there and those articles are awesome too- but activism is where the hasanat lies, it’s what this Ummah needs and it’s closer to the tradition of the Salaf.
Firstly, may Allah bless all of your efforts, this is a very enjoyable and useful blog. I would like to ask two questions and.
1: Generally, MM has only one post a day, is this intentional? Can there be more?
2: No offence meant to anyone, just out of curiosity, what is the correlation between the blind brother’s statements and the survey. It points out the fact that MM is accessible, is that it? again, I am asking only out of curiosity
1) Yes, the 1/day is intentional. People find that if it is more than that, it becomes too much to read, and believe it or not, people lose attention. In fact, there has been requests to reduce it to 1/ 2-days
2) The only relationship was that the brother provided us feedback, and we want yours. But the main purpose was just to find a place to highlight the brother’s inspiring story, and to inspire others. Out of inspiration, we hoped to ge a few minutes to do the survey. No direct connection though :) Good observation :)
I think I missed the email address where to send any further feedback.
I wanted to mention that if you guys do decide to do monthly subscriptions I will be extremely saddened.
It was hard to let go of the beneficial emails that Muhammad al Shareef once sent, but ever since the change with DiscoverU and such – I lose out on so much beneficial information because I can not pay the sum amount which is being requested. I can totally understand the need for fundraising, but as students of the knowledge – if what is meant by “subscription” could potentially cut off your readers from beneficial information especially if they cant pay the amount due – then what are they to do? I heard the excuse that if one really wants it, he will work hard to get it.. Alhamdulilah there are different avenues to receive knowledge such as this but those are hard to come by. This is not to put down any of the great works that each organizations have to put together. Ma sha’ Allah each is great, but knowledge is difficult to come by and this site I must say is doing excellent and is one of my favorite websites to visit.
wsalam.. dont worry, there’s no monthly subscription charge coming. i believe it meant voluntary donations on a monthly basis, the site will remain free inshallah either way.

1 minute- MR style.
Interestingly, the time has averaged around 5 minutes for the people who have done it thus far.

That’s because 99% of MM is perfect to me.
The 1% is the absence of the link on the logo.
If I could, I’d hack MM and add it myself!

Some more advice for MM: promote the number of RSS subscribers you have by adding the feedburner counter. It helps, trust me.

I disagree, major blogs that are extremely popular have more than 1 post a day. It’s not hard for readers to find the latest articles.
