Seerah Series | Part 1: Specialties of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) | Shaykh Yasir Qadhi

Published

Of the third name that he mentions, Anal Mahee…Al Mahee, he explained it himself. Al Mahee is the one whom, Allāh, yamhullahu bihil kufr. And maha means to efface, to wipe out. Maha means to wipe out. “So through me, Allāh subḥānahu wa ta'āla (glorified and exalted be He) will wipe out kufr.” And we see this occurring in his lifetime that the Arabian Peninsula was immersed in kufr, and in his own lifetime, the entire peninsula was immersed in Islam. And within 20-30 years, major bastions of kufr were then converted to Islam and they have been in Islam ever since. Within 60-70 years, Islam reached the borders of China and Andalus where it remains to this day. So Allāh subḥānahu wa ta'āla (glorified and exalted be He) used our Prophet ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) as Al Mahee. Al Mahee means to wipe away. And WAllāhi if you look at a geographic map, if you look at a historical geographic map that tells you the expansion of Islam, you see exactly what Al Mahee is. Literally the religion of Islam is expanding five, ten, fifteen, twenty, thirty forty years… It’s as if the other kufr is being wiped away and the religion of Islam is spreading forth. All of this is Al Mahee, the one who erases and effaces kufr.

Wa anal Haashir, the Prophet ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said. Al Haashir, he explained it as well. Alladhi yahshurunnaasu ‘ala qadami. That mankind will be resurrected ‘ala qadami. ‘Ala qadami means two things:

Means “at my feet” literally…but what it actually means is “right after me.” So the Prophet ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) is the signaling of the Day of Judgment. And in fact, the coming of the Prophet ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) is the first sign of the Day of Judgment. His sending is the first sign that judgment is now close. Compared to all the previous prophets, the very risalah of our Prophet ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) is the first of the signs of the Day of Judgment. So he is saying “anal Haashir

Another interpretation is that “I am the first person who will be resurrected and everybody will be resurrected after me.” Alladhi yahshurunnaasu ‘ala qadami. So after I am resurrected, I will be the first person resurrected, and even the order of resurrecting shall be a blessing from Allāh subḥānahu wa ta'āla (glorified and exalted be He) and there’s no question that the prophets will be resurrected first and foremost, and then the salihoon and the shuhadah and then the rest of the ummah. So even the order of resurrection and the order of recognizing what’s happening, because Allāh mentions in the Qurʾān that when they are resurrected, they’ll be shaking off the dust and they will say “Yaa waylana mam ba’athana min marqadina – What is happening to us? Who has brought us forth from our resting places?” People will be confused what’s happening, and the prophets will understand immediately what is happening. And the first person to be resurrected and the first person to understand will be our Prophet ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him). So he is saying anal Haashir.  The one that will be signaling the hashr. By his coming, he is signaling the coming of the Day of Judgment and by his resurrection on the Day of Judgment, he will be the one after whom everybody else will be resurrected.

“Wa anal ‘Aaqib.”  And he said, “I am the Aaqib,” Al ‘Aaqib, he himself explained it. There is no prophet after me. “Layla ba’dee nabiyy.” So Al ‘Aaqib means the successor. The word seal is not appropriate because that’s khaatam, but what it means is that the one who cuts off basically. The one who is at the end is the best phrase here. Al ‘Aaqib, the one who comes at the end.

And then he said I am the nabiiyur rahmah and I am the nabiyyut tawbah. And you understand nabiyyur rahmah and Allāh calls him rahmatal lil ‘alameen.

“I am the nabiyyut tawbah,” which means I am the prophet that is the prophet of repentance. I am the source of repentance, meaning that by believing in me and by following my teachings, people can be forgiven.

“And I am Al Muqaffah.” The Muqaffah means that, the one who comes at the end and makes the previous prophets complete or the one who makes the message of the previous prophets, there’s no need anymore because we have the full message or the complete message of the Prophet ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him).

And in one hadith, he called himself “ana nabbiyul malaahim.” I am the prophet that will signal lots of trials.  And that is because the biggest trials that the world has ever seen will occur with the ummah and during the ummah of the Prophet ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him). Trials such as the Dajjal and trials such as the three major earthquakes that will signal the end of time and trials such as the coming down of Isa ibn Maryam and the Mahdi. All of these major trials, they will occur within the ummah of this Prophet ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) so he called himself “I am nabiyyul malaahim” and this is a description that is more of a warning for us and for those who oppose him, that there’s going to be a lot of trials and tribulations in his time.

And there are other names that are mentioned in the sunnah, and there are other descriptions mentioned in the Qurʾān and inshaAllāh in the course of our lectures and series we will be talking about some of them.

Sh. Dr. Yasir Qadhi is someone that believes that one's life should be judged by more than just academic degrees and scholastic accomplishments. Friends and foe alike acknowledge that one of his main weaknesses is ice-cream, which he seems to enjoy with a rather sinister passion. The highlight of his day is twirling his little girl (a.k.a. "my little princess") round and round in the air and watching her squeal with joy. A few tid-bits from his mundane life: Sh. Yasir has a Bachelors in Hadith and a Masters in Theology from Islamic University of Madinah, and a PhD in Islamic Studies from Yale University. He is an instructor and Dean of Academic Affairs at AlMaghrib, and the Resident Scholar of the Memphis Islamic Center.

JazakAllah khayr. Just curious, will you be transcribing his entire Seerah series? To have something like this series transcribed is extremely beneficial.

    Assalamualikum
Jazak’Allahu Khairan for this, I’ve been thinking of making notes on these lectures, but to think you’ve managed to write a transcript, Masha’Allah.
This is very beneficial, but are you working on the entire series? If you did, it’ll be an understatement if I said that, that would be very beneficial.
May Allah(Swt) accept and allow us to benefit.

Love the notes above but the only problem above is number two. The prophet’s being decreed before adam being something unique to him is something problematic to say. The prophet was saying that i was decreed at that point.

We know from another hadeeth that everything has been decreed after Allaah created the pen. So i don’t believe this is something specific to the prophet. Allaah knew everything that was decreed way before Adam’s creation.

I do not agree with shaikh yasir on that, if the hadith he quoted is even authentic in the first place.

      Allaah knows best.

      Brother Safwan,

      Assalamu ‘alaikum,

I am Touaha from Bangladesh. I have read your notes on Seerah from your scribd uploads. It was great and so much promising. I am an Islamic Studies teacher of an Islamic School. I was so much inspired from your notes that I talked to my school director about teaching seerah of grade 6 and 7 students, and got positive response. We are doing it for the sake of Islam. If you allow me I can use your notes for the preparation of doing the discussion with them, so that both of you and me can be benefitted as brothers of Islam in the Hereafter InShaAllah.

If you are positive about this you can email me the MS Word files (doc files) of these notes, thus it will be convenient for me to print them and take them in the class to share with them. After the class I will provide them your awesome notes with some modification (I may summerize them a bit as they are little children), so they can read and remind themselves and also can share them with people, and talk to people from those notes if they want. I couldn’t copy-paste them from the site (scribd), thus asking for your kind help.

I prayed to Allah for both of you and me for these notes thus we can benefit ourselves.
