Eid Mubarak to everyone all the way from Pakistan where I am visiting family…
Things are generally calm… the bazaar traffic seems lighter but life goes on.
For the first time in two decades, I don’t have to travel an hour and wait hours for the slaughter and meat-cutting… all action will be taking place in the backyard!

It’s calm because we have four days off and of course people would take it as a chance to catch up on R&R! :) Alhumdolillah, the security situation in most of Pakistan’s Eastern half is good, especially Karachi (Alhumdolillah!).
Welcome back to Pakistan for Eid… :) It’s always a different experience spending Eid in a Muslim country! :)

Talking about experiences… We enjoyed a short animal show of a monkey and a goat (yes interesting combination, never knew a goat could be trained that well!) on one of Lahore’s shopping street (yesterday)…! No PETA around to spoil it :)
Also a call out to anyone who wishes to submit any interesting photos/videos of eid in your locality… send to info at muslimmatters dot org or just add it as a comment here…

Yes, no place like a Muslim country to enjoy Eid Al-Adha to the hilt! Since last night I am hearing ba-a-a-aa’s and moo-oo-oo’s from all round. Love it.

Please make dua’ for the people who died in rain floods in Jeddah… subhanAllah, what a hajj story for those who experienced this… as it is things are tough, and the rains don’t help.
If anyone has experiences of the rains to share from Jeddah, pls feel free to add.
Jeddah flood death toll reaches 77

This is a message from Shaykh Mamdouh Mohmoud, ex-Imam in ISGH:
Amad
shaykh, how did rains affect the trip? what was that experience like?
Mamdouh Mahmoud
Was ok alhamdullilah. It started after we reached Mina on the 8 th of dhulhijjah. Continued all day long till the maghrib time. It settled all the sand in Arafat and muzdalafah. Mercy from Allah.

Hmm… I think we have the two Sh. Mamdouhs mixed…. are you talking about Dr. Mamdouh Mohammed of AOU?
The Mamdouh I am referring to, who is updating his status frequently from the holy cities is Mamdouh Mahmood…

SubhanAllah—last year when my husband and I went for Hajj, we prayed Salat al-Istisqaa’ at the Haram, and it didn’t rain one drop. I remember seeing a dream after the Salah that it rained in Makkah! We had a family friend take us on a tour of Makkah, and when we climbed Jabal ar-Rahmah, we saw rain clouds even, but no rain. Then I saw another dream on the night of ‘Arafah that it rained, but no rain still. I remember the Khateeb on the Day of ‘Arafah asking (referring to the rain prayer that was done earlier), “Wasn’t there even one Saalih amongst us whose dua’a got accepted?” Which brought the whole group to tears…
But hearing about rain this year taught us a new lesson—perhaps Allah’s response will come, but not now…maybe in the future; it may be that the mercy and help of Allah is near, but we are impatient, wallahu A’lam.

I just got back from hajj. Roughly a week before they prayed salaat al-istisqaa in masjid al-haraam. The following week…. you all read the news.

Eid Mubarak! TaqabalAllah minna wa minkum
Just a reminder: let’s all examine what our ‘Isma’eel’ is in our life that we need to sacrifice or are willing to sacrifice to come closer to Allah (swt)…. is a person, object, idea, temptation, delusion, etc….?
May Allah envelop us all in His Mercy, ameen
