This is definitely one of the fruits of the Sunni Unity pledge. It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about that. Now we finally see the walking after the talking, alhamdulillah.

    Baraka Allahu FEEK!
I hope to be there in sha Allah.

Could we consider this one of the fruits of the sunni pledge??

    Amad:
This is not just a fruit of the Sunni Pledge- in sha Allah ta’ala this will be a fruit from among the choicest fruits of Jannah! :D

The Ummah ITSELF becoming a cure for a disease- it may not be easy, but if (no, when) we succeed–it will change our outlook and self-confidence as a community entirely. If we can take down malaria, what can’t we take down in sha Allah?

This is super important because its going to set the standard- we are always being told “don’t do this, that might not be so good, whatever”- always having our way barred, but now we are being shown, how as Muslims, we can make a massive difference and with Allah no one can stop us.

May Allah reward all the shuyookh, speakers, and organizers, Ameen.

Tell us more,….what is Islamic Relief planning to do to curb malaria and what can we do from our living rooms, offices and classrooms?

From yourliving rooms, offices and classrooms… log on to http://www.bitethebug.org and join the campaign today.

If everyone can get 10 more people to give $10 a month we can start by making sure all the homes in Mali have bed nets.

Something this simple…can save many lives, inshaAllah.

    Salaam Aalikum

This is really the brainchild of Imam Zayd – may Allah reward him for this!

We have been speaking regularly for the last few months and passed suggestions back and forth about what we should all do as an American Ummah. After his trip to Africa, he saw first hand the debilitating effects of this easily-preventable disease, and felt the need to mobilize the Muslims in the fight against malaria. I am at once proud and humbled to be part of such a noble initiative, may Allah bless these and other efforts and accept from us.

So in fact this is just the first step of many more such projects – some social, some academic, some local, some international – for all of us. The goal is to pool our resources together to help the Muslims of this part of the world and beyond!

      Dear Sh. Yasir Qadhi,

I have a question about this event. Did Islamic Relief sponsor or pay the speakers/scholars at the event? If yes, may I ask if this included the plane ticket and lodging expenses, and any other expenses?

      JazakAllahu-khayr.

    As’Salaamu Alaikum,

Insha’Allah this will be a history making event, which should not be missed. The Muslim ummah here in the West is putting aside our years of difference and getting together for the common good.

I encourage all of you to attend this amazing gathering, which will include all thee giants of the Islamic world. We are getting together to tackle the issue of Malaria in Africa. The vast majority of people suffering from Malaria in Africa are Muslims. It is only befitting that it is the Muslims who are getting together to help the suffering of our fellow Muslims. For too long the Muslim have been criticised for standing on the sidelines and doing nothing while other Muslim endure the worst of conditions. This criticism is accurate but it is time to answer the bell and work for the common good.

I promise you as one of the organizer of this event that you will not regret attending this program. Please support the Unity of the Muslims and at the same time help to eliminate the suffering of our fellow Muslims around the world. Insha’Allah, together we can make a difference and save some lives.

Insha’Allah see you there and let’s make this a better place for you and for me.

    Assalamu alaykum,

Mashallah excellent project, may Allah make it successful.

I’m curious about the program for the event. Has it been set yet?

Also, inshallah with everyone being excited about this event, it seems that much money will be raised to help with malaria so I’m wondering what will IR do as far as priorities with the results from this event. The bed nets are wonderful ideas and something we can all do even today, I’m curious as to what other plans IR has to help solve this problem.

    As Salamu Alaikum,

I pray that this effort will usher in a new area of cooperation to do good despite our minor or major differences in Islamic theology. It appears that our scope becomes bigger as we began to mature in our understanding of the principles of the religion. As we gaze at our present circumstance throughout the world only those limited in understanding will reject the need to broaden our base of cooperation with one another.

Sorry for the delayed response on this event.

I was there. Did anyone see me? ;-) In spite of the noble topic it was very tiring and drawn out. Ramadan was already taking a lot out of Muslims. They were then forced to listen to long speeches about disease that many clearly got bored with. I wonder how we can expect a mass movement to occur when people have more to learn about it.

I also thought Islamic Relief (IR) really lacked adaab at the event. Many people were turned off and this is really unfortunate – in spite of the fundraising they did. I wonder if there is an “adaab of fundraising” course somewhere?

Unfortunately I don’t see this event as the beginning of something big. WHO has already been doing such efforts for decades. Makes me wonder why Muslims are seeing all this now so late in time and making such a big deal about it. It’s a good intention and effort but efforts against malaria started a long time ago.

Nonetheless, Allah bless the Muslims for their noble efforts.

    Mohammed.
