Millions of East Africans are currently at risk of starvation due to prolonged drought and famine. Several charities have launched appeals to address the crisis, and MuslimMatters encourages you, the readers, to donate as much as you can TODAY.

Salam – sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I recommend you ask a friend or family member to donate on your behalf to Islamic Relief Canada, and pass them the money in person, as I still haven’t seen any charities accepting PayPal myself.

asalamu alaikum
is there any way we can feature this appeal more prominently on the website? there has been a real crisis in raising donations for this impending disaster. numerous NGOs have stated that their relief efforts have been hampered by lack of adequate funding. furthermore, there are still many who don’t know about this humanitarian crisis in the Horn of Africa. subhanallah children are dying upon arrival to the refugee camps. and an estimated 1/2 children coming from Ethiopia are malnourished. and the situation is much worse in southern Somalia, where most aid agencies have not even entered yet. just a humble suggestion…..may Allah bless you tremendously for your efforts (amiin).

There are some racial undertones to explain the lack of funding/awareness being given to this cause. DONATEEEE.
Muslims only tend to donate to causes where there is a clear enemy, ie. Palestinian issue. But when that is not the case there is less of a response. Our enemy right now is our own lack of care for our brothers and sisters. The life of Black Muslims is just as sacred as anyone else.

Imperial College London ISoc had a BBQ today, and we managed to raise £250 for the appeal, alhamdulillah. That works out to approx. $400. :)
