Wahed Invest Launches Educational Series On Halal Investing With Sh Dr. Yasir Qadhi

Published

Halal in simple terms means what is acceptable and permissible under Islamic Law.

Halal investing refers to the investing of funds that are permissible and in-line with Muslim investors’ values. There are several criteria that have to be met for an investment to be permissible, other than the absence of interest.

However, screening for these criteria is not always easy and that can be a major reason as to why Muslims are not as confident when it comes to investing their money through a channel they trust.

This is where Wahed steps in. Wahed is a digital halal investment platform that caters for investors from different professional and economic backgrounds. It uses technology to enable investors to start with $100 account minimums and enjoy lower fees.

Wahed has recently partnered up with Shiekh Dr. Yasir Qadhi who has joined as their Ethical Advisor. Together, they aim to educate the Muslim community on halal wealth and halal investing and they have started doing that by creating an educational YouTube series with Sheikh Yasir, who mashaAllah is very knowledgeable in that space.

In the first video, Shaykh Yasir addresses the question of ‘What is Wealth?’ to be able to move onto more detailed questions in the latter part of the series and to make the concept of wealth understandable for all Muslims who may be interested to invest at some point in their lives.

He explains that ‘Wealth’ or ‘Almaal’ is considered one of the blessings from Allah, and it all belongs to Allah. Wealth is not only the cash that we own it’s also the material possessions that may include the items engaged in businesses; like livestock, land/property and or cash which is the extension of gold or silver and in larger terms, the ‘business merchandise’ which is a shariah term that comes under the umbrella of wealth.

You can watch the first episode below.

Sh. Dr. Yasir Qadhi is someone that believes that one's life should be judged by more than just academic degrees and scholastic accomplishments. Friends and foe alike acknowledge that one of his main weaknesses is ice-cream, which he seems to enjoy with a rather sinister passion. The highlight of his day is twirling his little girl (a.k.a. "my little princess") round and round in the air and watching her squeal with joy. A few tid-bits from his mundane life: Sh. Yasir has a Bachelors in Hadith and a Masters in Theology from Islamic University of Madinah, and a PhD in Islamic Studies from Yale University. He is an instructor and Dean of Academic Affairs at AlMaghrib, and the Resident Scholar of the Memphis Islamic Center.
