Get Out of Debt with Dua

As-salaamu alaykum,

Are you in debt, soon will be or know someone that is? If yes, then the following dua (supplication) is surely, in shaa Allah, worth learning, memorizing and sharing.

In a sound hadith in Saheeh At-tirmithi it was narrated that a man who was in debt came to Ali ibn Abi Talib seeking his help to pay off some of his due payment. Ali –may Allah be pleased with him- told him:

“Shall I not teach you some words [i.e. a dua] which the Prophet taught me, if you said it, Allah will take care of your debt even if your debt was as big as a mountain.”

Ali then said to the man,

“say:

اللَّهُمَّ O Allah [Allahumma]

اكْفِنِي بِحَلاَلِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ Suffice me with that which is lawful against that which is prohibited. [Ekfenee behalaleka ‘an haraamek]

وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ and make me independent of all those besides You [Wa aghnenee befaDleka ‘am-man sewaak]

Here we are begging Allah to help us pay off our debt using lawful and permissible avenues and not through impermissible resources such as by stealing peoples’ money and accepting bribery or by any other haram means. And to make us dependent on Allah and no one else.

I have personally known someone who learned this dua and practiced saying it while simultaneously working so hard to earn lawful income and now he is paying off his debt at an unbelievable fast pace, ma shaa Allah. Even the debt collector cannot believe how fast the brother is paying him back the loan, but I do believe it.

I ask Allah to help us pay off our debts and assist us in saying the aforementioned dua with eman and certainty. May Allah bless you. Feel free to share this post to benefit your brothers and sisters.

Assalamualaykum,
Though this dua is specifically prescribed in the case of a debt, is there anything in using it outside of that. It is one of the most beautiful duas I have read and has applications generally even in our everyday lives.

This dua is undoubtedly the magical words – it is mesmerising that Allahtala taught us these words through Prophet Peace be upon him . It works better than magic .
In just 3 months I had returned around £8k debts which wasn’t possible with my hand to mouth income .

May Allah protect all Muslims from unlawful income or deeds and forgive all of us Ameen ya rabbul alameen

Jazakallah khayr for this dua, I have been having many health problems, one after another for many years now that paying off debt doesn’t seem possible. Been asking Allah to help me pay off debt, then this page came up in my search. Over a year ago I became a muslim and ever since I have been struggling to get out of riba. InshaAllah with this dua, Allah’s help will come.
