MuslimMatters recommends watching this video from start to end if you’re working with the Muslim community regularly. It’s important to understand the sacrifices and hurdles which our elders went through to start MSAs, mosques, and Islamic centers.
This video features interviews with some of the founding fathers of the Muslim community in the United States, their struggles, and how they overcame them. The interviews cover the perspectives of desi & Arab immigrants, as well as indigenous Islam. Dr. Mazhar Kazi (father of Sh. Yasir Qadhi) is interviewed here as well!
Sh. Yasir Qadhi comments:
A mini-documentary about my father – one of the pioneers of the first masjid in Houston (first six minutes).
That is the house I grew up in by the way!!
I’m really proud of my father’s efforts, and I pray that Allah blesses my parents with the best in this world and the next. Ameen!!!

Good video. Living in the Houston Community I always wanted to know about Mazhar Kazi, who I see at least one a month via khutbah rotation. I had no idea that he was Yasir Qadhi’s daddy!
