Engage: Dorset police arrest EDL member on suspicion of mosque bomb plot

Published

Details emerged yesterday of the arrest of EDL members in Dorset on suspicion of being involved in a plot to bomb a mosque in Bournemouth. Six men and one woman were held during the operation last week but later released without charge.
From the Guardian:

‘A police spokesman said: “We have been working very closely with the Muslim community since last Thursday and our local safer neighbourhood teams have been providing advice and reassurance throughout. At this stage there is no indication whatsoever that any of the mosques in Dorset are under threat of attack.”‘

Meanwhile, Bradford’s Council for Mosques has called on all communities in the city to ‘unite’ against the EDL as the group declared the city the next in its list of targets. The EDL plan to march in Bradford on 28th August renewing fears of the possibility of street riots between rival groups.

A spokesman for the Council of Mosques said:

‘“EDL is committed to disrupting the peace and harmony of our neighbourhoods, towns and cities.”’

‘“They do this through propaganda, which encourages and incites racial and religious hatred, and by setting communities against each other. We must not allow ourselves to be drawn into their web of hatred.”’

Only last week, the EDL was accused of threatening, intimidating and harassing residents of Luton and the EDL march in Dudley earlier this month saw further arrests of its members on public order offences.
