This could be used as a poster for an eating contest lol…
I like the title for this talk- Muslims tend to read the Quran or often even its meaning…as if they are reading a blank page. Ma sha Allah- keep up the good work br. Nouman! :)

salaam,
Perhaps that brother who went to public school (where 18 ppl took shahadah) can write something about his experience and how he talked to the youth. Did anyone follow up with them? Are they still muslim?
The problem is that we dont have effective mechanisms of following up with people who take shahadah. The truth isn’t desperate for numbers, we need to figure out how to support those who do take the brave step or to strengthen those who alread are muslims but don’t know much about their deen.
We tend to load the new muslims with a hundred books and pamphlets expecting them to be just like a regular muslim the next week.
I think the situation of the youth is analogous to that of new muslims. Lack of support. What books should beginners read? Which websites can they goto? Which talks should they listen to? What are the most common questions that they have? Which tafsir program can help them easily understand Quran? Which hadith books can give them a good foundation?
perhaps we need a user-friendly curriculum that the youth and new muslims feel comfortable using at their own pace, but one that will keep them motivated inshaAllah. [the youth might need a stepping stone to reach the level where they feel the desire to goto a bayyinah or almaghrib class]
may Allah swt guide us in following and spreading the deen in the best manner. ameen.
Brother nouman what do you think (anyone else please feel free to share your input)? may Allah swt reward you for your efforts, this khutbah is very important indeed.
wassalaam

Allah is So GREAT! “Yadmaghuhu” indeed – the truth bashes in the brains of falsehood! Excellent use of this word in this context.
I totally agree with two of the points he has made: (i) The truth (Quran) makes a Muslim confident about his Deen, so confident that he no longer protects himself from other religions in a secular, multi-religious environment, and (ii) The only justification for living in this environment is to do da’wah very actively.
P.S: can anyone really finish such a dessert without having an absolutely empty stomach before starting to eat it? Its huge!
Nahyan

Excellent khutbah mashaAllah.
I especially liked the points about
– truth’s intolerance to falsehood
– helping others understand the miraculous-ness of Quran, without Arabic knowledge
– do dawah and do some more dawah after that
Jazakallahukhair Br.Nouman,
– Nahyan

As Salamu Alikum,
I usually like brother Noumans Khutbas a lot and benefit tremendously from them. This Khutba was excellent in terms of content. However, I felt that it fell short of action. How do we change this defensive attitude? I wish more time was devoted to that. Nonetheless, JazakAllah Khair for bringing the topic up, since it forced me to brainstorming.

I think the khutbah was meant to get us thinking, to ask ourselves questions like the one you just asked, ” How do we change this defensive attitude? ” There were plently of hints in the 2nd part of the khutbah that lead us to the answer… i.e. we change our attitude towards the Quran by allowing ourselves and our young generation to learn & appreciate the miraculous nature of the words of Allah, the beauty and eloquence of this book, its timeless message,.. for us to learn how this book actually inspires us and instills in us a confidence about the truth, about the message of Islam. As opposed to reading this book from time to time simply because we feel that this is a religious ritual required of us, will not earn us any appreciation nor understanding of this confidence in Islam.
I think when we reach such conclusions on our own, and through our internal brainstorming, the message is even more powerful…
