Syed ul Istigfaar is great!
He who supplicates in these terms during the day with firm belief in it and dies on the same day (before the evening), he will be one of the dwellers of Jannah; and if anyone supplicates in these terms during the night with firm belief in it and dies before the morning, he will be one of the dwellers of Jannah.”

yes there’s plenty of dua resources, alhamdulillah, but this is where we highlight the one favorite dua we have – the one you make as youre breaking iftar :)

oh, i completely missed that nuance!
usually i am so hungry that if i can just remember to make the regular iftaar dua’, I am happy :)
and if I may be so lucky I try to add, “rabana aatina fid duniya hasanatan wa fil akhirati hasanat wa qinna adhaabin naar”

“Allahumma innee as’aluki ‘ilmaan naafi’an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa ‘amal mutaqabbalan.”
O Allah, I ask You to grant me beneficial knowledge, abundant sustenance, and accepted deeds (or something like that).
Du’aa of Istikhaara is indeed beautiful, subhan’Allah! I just finished memorizing it, and it’s amazing how it deals with all our worries…
At iftaar time, I make du’aa for an increase in emaan, ihsaan, and taqwa; as well as whatever else comes to my mind – family, exams, friends, the future…
I also try to score a double-whammy by drinking zamzam at iftaar as well, and making du’aa when drinking it – I need all the accepted du’aas I can get! :)

ALLAH, on this day make my fasts the fasts of those who fast (sincerely), and my standing up in prayer of those who stand up in prayer (obediently), awaken me in it from the sleep of the heedless, and forgive me my sins , O God of the worlds, and forgive me, O one who forgives the sinners.

Rick, this comment is being moderated. posting a pagan prayer is not something within the guidelines of this website, esp. with relation to the post in question that refers to the time of breaking the fast. Though we are sure it was well intentioned, it goes against the main tenet of a Muslim’s belief – namely the unadulterated belief in and worship of One God. Thank You.

The Etiquette of Supplication
al-Sayyid Shaykh Muhammad bin ‘Alawi al-Mâliki, in his book, Abwâb al-Faraj, identifies
ten etiquettes of supplication.
Praying during the special times
It is best to make dua at the times that are considered to be special by Allah.
The Day of Arafat is the best day of the year. Ramadan is the best month of the year. Friday and its eve are the best days of the week. The last part of the night is the best period of the day.
Praying during the special occasions and states
Some times are special, for example when the lines meet in battle, when the rain descends and the time between the adhân and iqâma. The most special situation is in prostration. The Messenger, upon him be peace, said:
The closest the slave gets to his Lord is when he is in prostration and so supplicate a great deal
(Muslim on the authority of Anas)
Facing the Qibla
The Messenger of Allah, upon him be peace, used to raise his hands and turn his palms face upwards towards the sky, which is considered to be the qibla of supplication, to the extent that the whites of his armpits could be seen. One should not raise one’s head to the face the sky.
Lowering one’s voice
It is best to supplicate in a soft voice but not silently. Allah- Exalted be He said:
“Neither speak thy Prayer aloud, nor speak it in a low tone, but seek a middle
course between.”
(al-Isra 17:110)
Style
One should not strain one’s language to be poetic.
Humility
Allah – Exalted be He – said:
Call upon your Lord in humility and in private
(al-‘Arâf 7:55)
Certainty that the prayer will be answered
One should pray with attention and certainty in your heart that Allah – Exalted be He – will answer you supplication. The Messenger, upon him be peace said: Call on Allah with certainty of an answer and know that Allah the Exalted will answer the supplication from a heart that is inattentive and oblivious.
(al-Tirmidhi on the authority of Abu Huraira)
Repetition
It is appropriate that one repeats the supplication over and over again until the
prayer is answered. It is recommended to repeat it three times.
Starting and finishing
One should not ask immediately but should begin the supplication with remembrance and praise (al-hamd) of Allah and also sending of salutations upon the Messenger, upon him be peace. The salutations should be at the beginning and at the end.
Inner etiquette
The inner etiquettes are the essence of supplication. Among the inner etiquettes of supplication are to be in a state of repentance and to have returned any thing gained by illicit means and turning with one’s whole being towards the Creator.
May Allah grant us correct manners in our supplication and answer our prayers and the prayers of the nation. Amin.

Salaam ‘alaikum,
The hadith above in subseciton “Certainty…” should read:
Call on Allah with certainty of an answer and know that Allah the Exalted will NOT
answer the supplication from a heart that is inattentive and oblivious.

Translation of Dua-E-Ukasha
In the Name of Allah, The Beneficent, The Merciful
O Allah! O The Immense Bestower and Giver
O The One Who is forever in contact (with His creation)
O The Doer of all that is good
O Allah! If I fall into doubt in my faith in You
and I am unaware of it, I beg forgiveness for it and I say
Laa Ilaha Ill’Allah Muhammad-u’r-Rasulullah
Sallallahu alaihi wa Sallam
(There is none to be worshipped but Allah
Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah)
O Allah! If I begin to deny my Islam (total submission to You)
and I am unaware of it, I beg forgiveness for it and I say
Laa Ilaha Ill’Allah Muhammad-u’r-Rasulullah
Sallallahu alaihi wa Sallam
O Allah! If I enter into doubt in my belief in One God, You Only
and I am unaware of it, I beg forgiveness for it and I say
Laa Ilaha Ill’Allah Muhammad-u’r-Rasulullah
Sallallahu alaihi wa Sallam
O Allah! If I fall into pride, arrogance, showing-off,
and in gaining a reputation in whatever I do for You
and I am unaware of it, I beg forgiveness for it and I say
Laa Ilaha Ill’Allah Muhammad-u’r-Rasulullah
Sallallahu alaihi wa Sallam
O Allah! If I begin to lie, and backbiting comes to my tongue
and I am unaware of it, I beg forgiveness for it and I say
Laa Ilaha Ill’Allah Muhammad-u’r-Rasulullah
Sallallahu alaihi wa Sallam
O Allah! If evil thoughts about You enter my heart
and I am unaware of it, I beg forgiveness for it and I say
Laa Ilaha Ill’Allah Muhammad-u’r-Rasulullah
Sallallahu alaihi wa Sallam
O Allah! If I begin to compare Your Knowledge with anyone else’s
and I am unaware of it, I beg forgiveness for it and I say
Laa Ilaha Ill’Allah Muhammad-u’r-Rasulullah
Sallallahu alaihi wa Sallam
O Allah! If I am not satisfied with what You destined for me to be in my power
and I am unaware of it, I beg forgiveness for it and I say
Laa Ilaha Ill’Allah Muhammad-u’r-Rasulullah
Sallallahu alaihi wa Sallam
O Allah! You favoured with so much but if I disobeyed
and I am unaware of it, I beg forgiveness for it and I say
Laa Ilaha Ill’Allah Muhammad-u’r-Rasulullah
Sallallahu alaihi wa Sallam
O Allah! You favoured me with so much of Your bounties
but if I did not even thank You for it
and I am unaware of it, I beg forgiveness for it and I say
Laa Ilaha Ill’Allah Muhammad-u’r-Rasulullah
Sallallahu alaihi wa Sallam
O Allah! Whatever You gave me of Your bounties
and if I did not fulfil their rights
and I am unaware of it, I beg forgiveness for it and I say
Laa Ilaha Ill’Allah Muhammad-u’r-Rasulullah
Sallallahu alaihi wa Sallam
O Allah! Whatever beautiful favours You bestowed on me
and if I did not even praise You for it
and I am unaware of it, I beg forgiveness for it and I say
Laa Ilaha Ill’Allah Muhammad-u’r-Rasulullah
Sallallahu alaihi wa Sallam
O Allah! Whatever I wasted of my life-time that was not pleasing to You
and I am unaware of it, I beg forgiveness for it and I say
Laa Ilaha Ill’Allah Muhammad-u’r-Rasulullah
Sallallahu alaihi wa Sallam
O Allah! Whatever You made compulsory on me
to think and perceive about You, if I closed my eyes to it
and I am unaware of it, I beg forgiveness for it and I say
Laa Ilaha Ill’Allah Muhammad-u’r-Rasulullah
Sallallahu alaihi wa Sallam
O Allah! Whenever I have fallen short in my hope and expectation in You
and I am unaware of it, I beg forgiveness for it and I say
Laa Ilaha Ill’Allah Muhammad-u’r-Rasulullah
Sallallahu alaihi wa Sallam
O Allah! Whenever I have considered someone other than You
to be of help in my hardship
and I am unaware of it, I beg forgiveness for it and I say
Laa Ilaha Ill’Allah Muhammad-u’r-Rasulullah
Sallallahu alaihi wa Sallam
O Allah! If I have sought help when in difficulties
from someone other than You
and I am unaware of it, I beg forgiveness for it and I say
Laa Ilaha Ill’Allah Muhammad-u’r-Rasulullah
Sallallahu alaihi wa Sallam
O Allah! If my feet have slipped from a path other than Yours
and I unaware of it, I beg forgiveness for it and I say
Laa Ilaha Ill’Allah Muhammad-u’r-Rasulullah
Sallallahu alaihi wa Sallam
O Allah! Whenever You corrected my mistakes with Your Grace
and I thought it was someone else doing it
and I am unaware of it, I beg forgiveness for it and I say
Laa Ilaha Ill’Allah Muhammad-u’r-Rasulullah
Sallallahu alaihi wa Sallam
O The Ever Living! The Eternal!
There is none to be worshipped but You
Sanctity be to You; surely, I acted improperly
Then We responded to his prayer
and delivered him from the grief
and thus We save the believers
And Zakaria, when he called his Lord:
O my Lord! Leave me not childless,
and You are the Best Inheritor. (21:87-89)
And may the blessings of Allah, The Exalted,
be on His best creation, Muhammad,
and on his family, and his companions, and his wives, all of them.
With Your Mercy, O The Most Merciful

Oh man, how could you all forget the duaa for anxiety and sorrow.
‘O Allaah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant, my forelock is in Your hand, Your command over me is forever executed and Your decree over me is just. I ask You by every name belonging to You which You name Yourself with, or revealed in Your Book, or You taught to any of Your creation, or You have preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur’aan the life of my heart and the light of my breast, and a departure for my sorrow and a release for my anxiety.’
Another one for distress:
‘O Allaah, it is Your mercy that I hope for, so do not leave me in charge of my affairs even for a blink of an eye and rectify for me all of my affairs. None has the right to be worshipped except You.’

One of my favorites:
Narrated Ibn ‘Abbas: The Prophet salAllahu alayhi wa sallam used to invoke Allah at night, saying, “O Allah: All the Praises are for You: You are the Lord of the Heavens and the Earth. All the Praises are for You; You are the Maintainer of the Heaven and the Earth and whatever is in them. All the Praises are for You; You are the Light of the Heavens and the Earth. Your Word is the Truth, and Your Promise is the Truth, and the Meeting with You is the Truth, and Paradise is the Truth, and the (Hell) Fire is the Truth, and the Hour is the Truth. O Allah! I surrender myself to You, and I believe in You and I depend upon You, and I repent to You and with You (Your evidences) I stand against my opponents, and to you I leave the judgment (for those who refuse my message). O Allah! Forgive me my sins that I did in the past or will do in the future, and also the sins I did in secret or in public. You are my only God (Whom I worship) and there is no other God for me ( i.e. I worship none but You).”
