Witness: Crimes Against Humanity in Syria #Mentionthe450

Published

By Zana Alattar

Five hundred and twenty-one and the number is still rising. Today, the Syrian people have faced one of the most gruesome massacres of the last three years of Revolution.

In the suburbs of Damascus, in Jdaydet Al-Fadel, the regime government mercilessly massacred its own people.  Dignity and humanity were forgotten as men, women, and children were held at knifepoint, brutally mutilated, and slaughtered like animals.

The world has witnessed this terror being inflicted on the people of Syria for over two years. We have witnessed massacres like this in Darayya, Al-Houla, Homs, Hama, and all over Syria. We have witnessed as the Syrian people’s struggle for freedom has been met with snipers, bombs, knives, and even chemical weapons.

We witness and do not act. We witness and make excuses. We witness and stand aside as human beings face a fate that animals would not be subjected to.

With witnessing, comes shame -shame that life of a Syrian has been cheapened to the point where no one cares, ashamed that any human being’s death can somehow be deemed more important than the death of another.

The world is witnessing, yet the media is not covering the massacre that killed 520 in a ruthless slaughter and then burned their bodies like garbage. The world is witnessing and remains silent.

“Whoever of you sees an evil must then change it with his hand. If he is not able to do so, then [he must change it ] with his tongue. And if he is not able to do so, then [he must change it] with his heart. And that is the slightest [effect of] faith.” [1]

Do what is in your power. If you have political power, act on it. If you have humanitarian connections, use them. If you have monetary success, donate it. And if all else fails, just realize that what is happening in Syria is happening to human beings, people just like you.

Look at the world with one eye and see all human beings as just that. Look at every massacre as a massacre against innocent people. Look at a crime of terror as a crime against humanity.

May Allah (swt) bring peace and justice in Syria, it makes one wonder what is the solution to the killing in Syria?

The solution is the UN speaking about it occasionally , more dialogue, a USA invasion with other allies, more dialogue, a new puppet leader influenced by major world powers who will supposedly be for the people but will function as anything but for the people, more dialogue, Muslim leaders speaking about it mildly, people giving likes to Syria videos on youtube & lastly more dialogue! Sarcasm intended! Just frustrated. May Allaah forgive myself & the rest of us for our lack of efforts & concern for our brother. Great article by the way, Tabarak Allaah.

SubhanAllah! Indeed Allah is enough for the believers!! It is no wonder the prophet( sala allahu alayhi wassallam) praised the people of AlShaam(The Levant including Syria) and that he (alayhi salatu wassalam) said إذا فسد أهل الشام فلا خير فيكم meaning, “When the people of AlShaam become corrupt, then there will be no good in you…” [recorded by AlTirmidhi and he said it is “hasan sahih”] O ALLAH BE WITH AHLUL SHAAM AND RID THE EARTH OF THE FILTH. Verily, the victory of Allah is near Oh Ummah of Muhammad.

Reading the replies it is clear that the neither the author of this article nor the readers have a clue what to do. The proposed actions by the author has no Islamic basis. We say Islam is a deen complete and true so for every problem there is an Islamic solution ordained by Allah (SWT). Until we find that solution and start implementing it our situation will not change.

I have been pondering recently about the problems Muslims face whether these are spiritual, economic, judicial, social, contractual, political and there is only one solution… the re-establishment of the Islamic deen in its totality. Rather than dealing with the symptoms we must get to grip with the root cause which is the absence of Islam as a way of life. Only through the re-establishment of Islam as a comprehensive way of life can Muslims regain their independence, long lost, and begin to solve their problems in a comprehensive manner. May Allah (SWT) give us guidance in this area.
