OK, so we messed up a little yesterday… we made the bold move of being all up-front about our intentions for mentioning the Brass Crescent Awards. Although honesty tends to be the the best policy, modesty is the way of the believers – so we decided to scrap the original entry, and leave it up to our readers to decide on what to do (but if you need any help, visit our blog best page; just a gentle hint!).
Jazakallah khair to brother Yahya for his advice (check out the comments below), that reminded us what it’s all about. We greatly appreciate any feedback, and always take our readers’ suggestions seriously.
P.S., we were going to blame the whole incident on hackers hired by Musharraf, to tarnish our good name. It may have been believable considering the manner in which he deals with the opposition these days…

That was a good post, mashallah, but not sure it fulfills the description of that category:
I think the only thing evil about cheesy Dorritos are the smell they leave on your breath! :)
P.S., cheesy Dorritos in the UK are suitable for veggiesโฆ ;)

As-salamu alaykum,
This is not to say that muslimmatters.org is not a noble effort, but should muslimmatters be putting itself forward? Isnโt it for others to nominate and put it forward? After all, Muslim bloggers may indeed have the noble goal of โto spread the knowledge, love and understanding of Islam, for the sake of our Creatorโ but is that the basis one would nominate someone for the Awards? I would judge the quality of the writing or the thoroughness of the research or various other criteria, but getting into the intentions of the writer and whether he or she had fulfilled their own intentions is a much more difficult matter.
Just a thought. And Allah knows best.
Kind regards,
Your brother in faith,
Yahya Birt

I keep finding myself referring to these posts from Tariq:
Movement mentality
Signs you might be in a cult
Especially since cults of all sorts continue to form periodically, even if their main propagators vehemently deny it.
Know of the latest cult then? One jumps to mind right away, but to avoid being hounded by its adherents, I’ll pass on the mention. Not that you can’t! :)

Salam ‘alaikum Amad,
I just read the list on Tariq’s blog.
I also know who you’re talking about. I’ve been to their majalis, visited their Sheikh and sat with him, did business with them and “hung out” with quite a few of them.
It’s no cult Akhi. The only thing from the Tariqs list that even remotely applies is that a small number of them work together on a farm.
And many of the things that you and others might find strange are the way things have always been among religious people and their teachers.
See for example: love
