aaesh, I recommend watching the two videos above. Also, search youtube for “collateral murder” — that video was produced using footage that the US government refused to turn over to Reuters — the famous news service. Reuters wanted the footage because it suspected it would show the truth about the killing of two of its reporters in Iraq. In fact the video shows the utter brutality and reckless disregard for civilian lives of US military personnel.
And WikiLeaks is so important because it is the organization that was able to release that video.
Why does the US government, and so many others, hate WikiLeaks? Because people suspecting a government of corruption, of extrajudicial killings (murder), and other evil — those people can be easily ignored. But real evidence — the smoking gun, or the smoke from 30MM shells fired in deadly streams by US helicopters at children and other civilians — that embarrasses policticians, and reminds them of their misdeeds publicly.
you can also search democracy now for articles and videos about WikiLeaks — the on-air debate between Glenn Greenwald and a critic of WikiLeaks was especially worth watching.

Salamualaikum,
Its nice to see these pieces from you. mash Allah.
Call it scientific journalism or otherwise, regardless of their intentions and actions, just the way OBL played into the hands of CIA, and led to global war on terror (i don’t know who did 9/11) and consequently putting everything Islam and Muslim treated as almost untouchables (metaphorically and in many places actually).
The point is Wikileaks is playing into the hands of CIA again, and it may so happen that government decides to take law to take down the internet & Its freedom, following the suit of Chinese government. Its obvious that Mr Assange’s site is indirectly helping the powers that be get their excuse to control the Internet. Period. He hasn’t released any thing we hadn’t already guessed. No doubt his stance is taken as brave by many.
Additionally, If we see the types of news released as the cables are
1. already filtered
2. suiting to the agenda of corporate media
3. not a single cable exposing the lobby yet. (didn’t we know arab dictators hate iran, but thats not what arab world thinks, but thats how they show it on CNN)
ps, BTW haven’t been on domestic plane for a year now. what is the option generally readers here opting for. The x-ray or the pat down? how do they treat muslims on airports, any anonymous experience to be shared?
pps would reading wikileak supporting article on MM cause people to lose federal job? :P
