Take the “Political Compass” test, and see where you stand.

I ended up being left of center on the economic scale, and right smack in the middle on the social scale. So, somewhere between “Authoritarian left” (communism) and “Libertarian left”! Pretty cool… where do you land?

I clicked on the “Learn Quran online” link (one of the few useful ads :) here) and the concept seems quite innovative. Online Quran teaching…hmm. Anyone tried something like this??

Amad bhai, I took the test, and I ended up extremely moderate (I am 0.62 towards economic right and 0.93 towards Libertarian). Basically first purple box. Nice, sign of Ahl-us-Sunnah Wal Jamaah.

Hmm, it seems that economically, 4 out of 5 are left of center, or liberal positions. This is pretty consistent with average Muslim views about the role of the government, etc. And most of us are not that far from center on authority vs. libertarianism, which is a healthy mix. I almost hit zero! I bet that had we done this survey before 9/11, we would be furthers towards authoritarian type positions, but a lot of the draconian laws have scared us towards libertarian positions. Good reminder, too much authority can be intoxicating for those in the positions (people in many Muslim countries know that!).

On the political front, if you look at where the candidates stand (see here), the majority of them are right of center, authoritarian (though Ron Paul’s placing surprises me). Kucinich is probably closest to Muslim positions on economic fronts, and John Edwards overall on combined fronts. Interestingly, we liked both these candidates. And our preferences for Obama/Democrats also become clearer on this chart.

Hmm, now I have to question this site assessment, I remember another site which showed Ron Paul almost same on economic issues but quite towards libertarian, while this shows him on authoritarian side. Is this the left wing conspiracy!!
