Salaam Aalikum
My namesake and dearly beloved brother Yaser Birjas is one of the very few people whom I really and truly look forward to talking to and benefitting from. I’ve known him since my first year at Madinah, when I was still in the Arabic program and he was about to graduate – more than a decade ago – and he’s always been someone I look up to and go to for advice.
It gives me great pleasure to welcome him to our blog; I know his contributions will be intellecutally stimulating for all of us.
Yasir
PS – Please note the spelling difference between our names; although in Arabic we’re both the same, in English it would help to keep this minor difference so that we know which ‘Yas(i/e)r’ is being referred to!!!

Looking forward to some awesome stuff from Shaikh Yaser. For those of us in Canada who haven’t had the honour of becoming his students (yet), this’ll be a great way to interact with the Shaikh, in sha Allah.

Welcome, although I don’t know hardly any of the American/Canadian teachers.
I’ll take everyone’s unanimous word for it and look forward to your potentially great articles, insha Allah!
May Allah allow us to benefit.

Quick question – whereabouts in Canada are you, sheikh Yaser? Because we on the West Coast are sorely in need of some good teachers!

Bismillahir Rehmanir Rahim
Assalat o wassalam o alaika ya Rasool Allah
Asslam O Alaikum,
I am not the best muslim but trying to be, May ALlah give me hidayat. I listened to your lectures and I am impressed by the quality of explaining things, Allah have given you.
I looked for your pictures and found it. Last time I checked photographes were haram in Islam
http://www.islam-qa.com/index.php?ref=365&ln=eng&txt=photo
Also the rulings on moustache:
http://www.islam-qa.com/index.php?ref=1189&ln=eng&txt=moustache
My question to myself is should I listen to lectures and follow the advice of a scholar who does not do exactly like Prophet Muhammad (sallallaho alaihe wassalam) did. Should I not fear that some day I may be misguided b/c the scholar wanted to be “moderate” so he may not give me the right advice.
I am a muslim looking for a scholar who is following Islam in its Purity. May Allah give hidayat to me and every muslim and non muslim. Allah knows best.
Omar

jazakallahu khayr for your response omar.. in regards to pictures it should be noted there is some legitimate ikhtilaaf amongst the ulemma, especially in regards to pictures in electronic format.
also i’m not quite sure what you meant by posting the link to the fatwa on mustaches?
and lastly i will say this, we should all strive to find such scholars, but at the end of the day all are human and all err. we won’t find anyone to follow who is 100% pure other than the Prophet (saw). look for someone who is at least striving their best to follow the quran and sunnah inshallah.
