Heavenly Hues - Good and Evil Winning Paper

Heavenly Hues - Good and Evil Winning Paper

Questioning the nature of good and evil is part of human nature. We find people of all creeds, races, and eras seeking to understand good and evil through works of literature, poetry, theatre, art, and more. While an examination of these collective works can provide insight into man’s struggle between good and evil and his understanding of it, such an examination will not provide man with the definition of what good and evil are nor with a prescription for achieving good and prohibiting evil in his life. Only the One who created us, our Lord, Allah subhaanahu wa ta’ala can provide us with such knowledge and guidance.

Authority of the Sunnah Part-2: Hadith=Revelation Q&A

The first post raised multiple issues and comments, so I will try to summarize a few of the main points here insha’Allah with some responses.
Do Hadith have chains of narration unlike Quran?
The Quran was required to be memorized word for word, down to items we can not explain. We do not label verses of the […]

Authority of Sunnah Part-1: Hadith=Revelation

We bring to you a short series on some of the basics of the sciences of hadith, in order to increase our appreciation and understanding of this great field. So, perhaps next time, we may be a bit less casual in dismissing hadith as “optional”. The article begins after a short introduction. We are […]

The Royal “We”

The Royal “We”

After reading a recent blog discussion about poor translations of Arabic texts, including the Quran, I though it would be worth reconsidering our insistence on using the royal “we”. There are many verses in the Quran where Allah speaks using the Arabic pronoun “nahnu” (meaning we) or its associated suffix….”we” created, “we” sent down, etc. […]

The following paper was submitted as a homework assignment for the AlMaghrib Heavenly Hues course taught by Shaykh Yaser Birjas in Houston. The assignment was to search through the ayaat of the Quran to see what guidelines are given for establishing a foundation of dialogue with Ahl al-Kitab. It was mentioned in class that it […]

Expressions for Giving And Getting Help in the Qur’an

I was visiting the community in Macon, Georgia yesterday and a friend asked me the difference between two very interesting words in the Qur’an, both of which are used for seeking help:

اِسْتِغاثَة and اِسْتِعانَة . I couldn’t answer him right away […]
