Alhamdolillah, the excerpt above is from a message received by the organizers of the April 9, event.

On April 30, 2011, I got this inquiry from someone in Pakistan via Facebook:

Assalamoalaikum
Can i ask you a question?
Why the muslim community from Pakistan is silent on Aafia?
Are they scared?
Is it not their religious duty to raise voice for this mazloom khatoon – qom ki beti – Dr. Aafia Siddiqui? Thanks

Here’s my reply:

Akhee, I agree with you that it must be fear. People have told me they do not even want to mention her name in khutbahs or even post anything about her on Facebook! They tell me it would be “too political.”

But for sure that is just a way of saying they are afraid of the consequences. And how sad that those consequences include the fear of what other Muslims would say about them for speaking up on her behalf.

May the love of Allah fill the hearts of our brothers and sisters until courage rises in their limbs and their tongues, and they stand for justice and mercy for all innocents and all those being tortured, and especially for our sister, Dr. Aafia.

Please spread the word of this event on her behalf.

If you and your friends do not live close enough to join us on May 7, then exhort every person you know to ask themselves who could travel there to stand with us. And may Allah make our efforts to help her bear fruit for her in this life and in the next, and make them a cause for shifa for each of us in the next life.

Please say, “ameen.”

If you are troubled by doubts over issues surrounding the case, watch this very brief video:
And if you doubt the value of the mobilization, compare taking action to remaining silent.

Only Allah Knows how much of a difference any of us can make in this world, but I ask you to continue to support justice for Dr. Aafia with your duas and by inviting others to attend the next mobilization which will take place on May 7, inshaAllah. And if you can attend, too, even better!

May Allah make this event a relief for this sister who has undergone torment upon torment since the beginning of this odyssey of injustice.

May Allah give you khayr for all you do and pray on her behalf. Ameen.

Please find below a sample of the FB supporters of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui. The graphic is not hyperlinked to those FB pages, and they are not listed here in any particular order. Listing (or not listing) a group does not endorse it or its actions (sorry for the lawyer-speak) but this graphic is meant to show how easily any of us can find Muslims and other good people who want to stand up against injustice.

Allah s.w.t burdens not a person beyond his/her scope. May Allah s.w.t have mercy on sister Arifa Siddiqui. May Allah s.w.t be the closest friend, supporter and protector for our sister always. May Allah s.w.t give her victory over the disbelievers & transgressors. May Allah s.w.t strengthen her patience & keep her steadfast on her religion. & May allah s.w.t save her from shaitan & all those evil people.

For her every cry May Allah s.w.t alleviate her status in Jannah. For her every pain May Allah s.w.t open the doors of Jannah for her. For every injury she is enduring sliently & patiently May Allah s.w.t expiate her sins.
For every tear she sheds May Allah s.w.t build her palaces in Jannah. May Allah s.w.t enter her to Jannah with her baby & her other children & May Allah s.w.t give her, her children & restore the coolness of her eyes. May Allah s.w.t make her be among the first to enter the Jannah among the Muslims. May Allah s.w.t give her goodness in this world &; hereafter. Ameen!

86 years of imprisonment… This is just the beginning of torture towards Muslims. Torture to Palestine, Afghanistan, Bosnia, Iraq, Lebanon etc… just testing the buttons of Muslims. They want Muslims to stand up & retaliate. They know, that if one hurts then the whole Ummah hurts. Now, the phase two is underway, with Libya & rest of “awakening” project of Muslim countries.

They are just waiting for Muslims to blast off! so that the Israelites can get an excuse to wage war In the Name of defending themselves against Muslim fanatics…

This is just the beginning of torture…

May Allah s.w.t bless the work & make your the work you all are preparing to do for her a success. May Allah s.w.t give victory to Dr. Afia… Ameen!

May Allah give sister Aafia patience. Was it overzealousness that got her in prison or was there another motive? From a political stance, this shows how weak Pakistan is. All that the politicians in Pakistan could do was lip service on behalf of Sister Aafia, but American politicians didn’t take long to get their contracter out after he killed 2 Pakistanis in public.

Allah Knows better, but I feel in my heart that it was the worst kind of overzealousness.

How can one overzealousness be worse than another? Well, not just in degree of intensity. In this instance, torture was used on every person who is alleged to have accused her. Torture combined with suggestive questioning leaves any information extracted completely useless as evidence, besotted to the point that it could never be used as evidence.

But it appears that the interrogators and their masters decided such testimony was enough to order the rendition of Dr. Aafia, her utterly innocent children, and who knows how many other people — and Allah Knows how many of them languish still in unknown prisons or have died therein.

The accusations against her are detailed at length in articles such as the recent Guardian piece about leaked information from Gitmo.

But witness a few facts: she was never charged with any terrorist act. Never. Not after all the time that she was disappeared. Not after all the information that was extracted by torture. Not in any court — not even the Kangaroo military tribunals set up by the Bush Admin, and remember she was disappeared during President W’s reign of self-righteousness.

That means that in all those years they could not even put together a case for terrorism that would meet W’s super-low thresholds. That’s how weak is any so-called evidence of her alleged terrorist activity. How much the US Attorneys and military prosecutors alike fear being laughed out of court. Pick your expletive, under W US Attorneys even got convictions against scholars of Islam like Dr. Ali al-Timimi, who is innocent of what he was convicted for.

So not only do I believe she is innocent, but the evidence tends to show that her rights have been utterly abused by any measure of the law. She should be free, and have been freed long ago.

Overzealousness? Her jailers must not believe in the Day of Judgment, must not even think of meeting their Lord. For how can they hope for any Mercy that Day when they have not even been just to prisoners like her?

“Reflections on the April 9 Mobilization for Aafia”

“Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice: for they shall have their fill.”

Some of you will recognize this as a quote from the The Sermon on the Mount. It seemed an appropriate start to a reflection about an event that took place in the shadow of a prison.

To be honest, we weren’t really in the shadow of anything. We were exposed to direct sunlight. The official temperature in Ft. Worth that day was over ninety degrees. The protest area was considerably hotter. We had lots of bottled water.

We were not allowed anywhere near the facility in which Aafia Siddiqui is being held. She was unaware of the demonstration, but the prison officials know we were there, and that was the point.
