UPDATES(4) Israel Attacks Humanitarian Freedom Flotilla for Gaza, Kills 19; World Condemnations Pour In

Published

Muslim Matters’ Statement:

For those who were following the  flotilla of ships carrying aid for besieged Palestinians in Gaza, the events unfolding last night were horrifying and unimaginable. A group of peace activists carrying aid in the form of reconstruction material and necessities for rebuilding Gaza, were intercepted and fired upon by Israeli naval forces in a blatant and disproportionate use for force.

We at Muslim Matters strongly condemn and question the basis on which Israeli forces opened fire on peace activists, particularly as the flotilla was still situated in international waters. The brutal killing of sixteen people (or nineteen, as some reports suggest; officially, ten) of different nationalities, as well as injuring dozens more, cannot and should not be trivialized.

We also question the allegation of the Israeli government and army spokespersons that they had ‘come under attack’ from the peace activists and we call for a full investigation into the incident. Based on Israel’s history of carelessly unleashing its military power upon unarmed civilians, this latest incident only stands to worsen its image in the eyes of the Muslim world. Judging also from the condemnation beginning to pour in, from all quarters of the globe, it is hoped that the spotlight has finally begun to turn upon Israel’s atrocious crimes as well as disregard for international laws and UN resolutions.

News Roundup:

Flotilla Facts:

  • The flotilla forms part of a peaceful movement by a group that is working to mobilize support to lift the Israeli siege on Gaza
  • The flotilla was carrying aid for reconstruction of Gaza and had been declared clear of weaponry at several ports before approaching Israel
  • The aid aboard the flotilla did not compose of water, food or medicines, which were the only types of aid Israel was offering to take through via the land route
  • The flotilla was intercepted by Israeli ships while it was still in international waters
  • The flotilla did not have just Muslims aboard but peace activists from many Non-Muslim countries, as well as journalists
  • Israel alleges its (heavily-armed) commandos came under fire from the activists – however, no Israeli commando was killed in the events that followed

Why do these idiots ask for “investigation”. What has become of the investigation on Gaza attack not too long ago? Scores of people dead…and these morons are seeking information to prove a foregone conclusion. As time goes on these events are only reduced to ambiguity. Are they responsible, was it legal, did they break the law, international water blah blah? idiots. When the topic murder is raised against Israel they are largely concerned about whether laws are broken. On the other hand, if a Palestinian, who’s lost all mind living under extreme debilitating condition attacks the illegal settlers we make it a moral issue, and quickly label this an act of pure aggression, savagery…

The Gaza flotilla was a big publicity stunt by the organizers. They really weren’t concerned about the materials that they were bringing in. It was all a publicity stunt.

That having been said, I couldn’t believe it when I woke up this morning and read the headlines.
That standoff between the Israeli navy and a flotilla of ships carrying civilians and relief supplies to Gaza actually ended in a shootout and 10-15 civilian were dead

Never would I have guessed it would have ended this way.

I figured that the Israelis would end the standoff by ramming the boats, shooting bullets into their hulls, or disabling their rudder.
    Standoff ended.

But shoot at civilians….No.. I wouldn’t have even considered that to be an option.

The Israeli government says they were attacked. But when the score is
15-20 civilians dead and 0 military dead, it’s hard to imagine that it was anyting but a massacre.

So maybe if they discover that the boats were carrying supplies of rockets, guns, explosives etc. it would help to justify the attack.
But if all they find is wheelchairs, medical supplies and cement, it’s going to be a PR nightmare for Israel.

Whoever came up with this response needs to be fired and put behind bars. Israel needs to apologize to the victims families. Then it needs to say it will conduct a thorough investigation and make reparations.

The flotilla organizers staged a publicity stunt to draw worldwide attention and sympathy…and the Israeli’s foolishly obliged them by playing right into their hands.

    Stupid..Stupid…Stupid

    • greentea

      May 31, 2010 at 12:09 PM

This was both a necessary “publicity stunt” to expose the kind of circus-style democracy Israel purports to have, and a much needed relief effort for the struggling Palestinian in Gaza.

BTW, no serious mind should think that it is difficult for Israelis to plant evidence to justify the savage act.

I once attended a forum with a couple of Congressmen and they mentioned that the most effective way to advocate for change in issues such as these is to build coalitions beginning at the grassroots level to lobby and rally our politicians because they understand the language of money for their campaigns and votes to get elected and not by shouting insults or curses or by protest marches.

The existence of the Zionist entity in the heart of the Arab and Muslim is itself a strange
Because the Zionist entity is not shared with the Arab world of anything characteristics such as religion, customs
Traditions and language. The existence of Israel within the Arab world is a big mistake, and constant tension
In the Middle East, and we note since 1948. Such as the entry of foreign bodies within the human body begins
Body fever, tension and fatigue and to ensure that until the UFOs.
To all Arab and Islamic countries to form the Ministry of Defence and one common to all States and the expulsion of the Zionists
From the Middle East. This is the best choice for Arabs and Zionists in that one because Bjrdasiraiil within the Arab world
Will feel the Arab world would not be true of the world would not be true of the Jewish people will never feel the stability and comfort, unless

    As salaam alykum,

In order to understand what we are up against, we have to understand our enemy …

Why do they behave the way they do ?? With such arrogance and impunity .. AND GET AWAY WITH IT ALL THE TIME !

Even if we are helpless to do anything ( except pray for deliverance and a normal life for our brothers and sisters in Palestine ).. we should at least be given an opportunity to understand why Israel keeps on its relentless onslaught of torture, murder and ethnic cleansing of Palestianians..

These statements are not mine .. they are statements of respected Israeli elders !

( They and many other statements of a similar nature PLUS the actions of Israel over the years has opened my eyes and made me a much wiser person )…

May Allah guide us all to the TRUTH.. Ameen.

    Ma asalaam :

“Our race is the Master Race. We are divine gods on this planet. We are as different from the inferior races as they are from insects. In fact, compared to our race, other races are beasts and animals, cattle at best. Other races are considered as human excrement. Our destiny is to rule over the inferior races. Our earthly kingdom will be ruled by our leader with a rod of iron. The masses will lick our feet and serve us as our slaves.” — Menachem Begin – Israeli Prime Minister 1977-1983

“In everything, we are destroyers–even in the instruments of destruction to which we turn for relief…We Jews, we, the destroyers, will remain the destroyers for ever. Nothing that you will do will meet our needs and demands.” – Maurice Samuel, You Gentiles, pages 152, 155, and 147.

    LET’S WAKE UP, LET’S UNITE!!

The same lie, the same shameless, brutal, inhuman act has been committed again by the notorious Israel!

Isn’t it time we wake up from our deceptive slumber? Isn’t it time we realize that the reality is “today them and tomorrow us”, if we will sit back and relax and say “well, what to do?”.

My beloved Muslim brothers and sisters! By the One Who is Mighty in Power over the seven heavens, by the One who is the Lord over Israel and the others states, we will either realize ATLEAST now and start working together… OR we will again repeat the same mistake which we have repeated countless number of times by saying “there is nothing we can do!” and again reject the Help of Allah SWT!

Yes! we are rejecting His Help when we don’t want to unite, when we are not ready to go back to the BEST and the ONLY solution… the Quran, the Light, the Reminder, and the foot steps of our beloved Prophet SAW and his companions!
We have the best example in them….if still we are trying to search for “solution” we are being too low to possess something called intellect.

Use your resources to spread truth and justice!!

Please my dear brothers and sisters….don’t underestimate the power of Prayer…Call onto Allah by standing together in the last part of the night…
may this be a uniting point for the Ummah… may Allah SWT take away cowardice from our hearts and fill our hearts with purity and sincerity of Faith and courage. ameen!

Israel sank the Liberty, a US Naval vessel in 1967, after an attack that lasted many hours. The US was a neutral country during the “6-day war.” And 13 years later Israel only paid some US$12 million for the ship, the 34 crew killed outright, and for the injured. America’s response? Immediate bombing or invasion of Israel, the way that Iraq or Afghanistan were attacked? Only if your definition of bombing includes tens of billions of dollars in military and economic aid to Israel. Yeah, I bet that US$12 million was hard to give up, what with billions of dollars of aid coming in.

Why then is the US government response a surprise now? When an aid convoy is brutally attacked, and the victims blamed for resisting commandos who had already opened fire on them? Israel would blame its victims in any case because that is what Israel always does.

Israel is not just a terrorist state, but a state of denial, as bloody-minded and remorseless as a serial killer.

    TAKE ACTION

Call President Barack Obama and tell him he MUST stand firm and put U.S. interests ahead of Israel. Demand the United States hold Israel accountable for its criminal actions and the deaths of the humanitarian aid volunteers.

    TALKING POINTS

    1. Remain firm but polite
    2. Israel boarded the ships in international waters
    3. Israel attacked unarmed civilians
    4. Israel’s blockade of Gaza amounts to collective punishment, which is against international law.
    5. The United State’s support of Israel weakens U.S. standing in the world and threatens American national security

White House – Call 202.456.1111 and press ‘1’ when prompted.

Imam Zaid addressed this last nite at the RIS conference- He urged everyone
to join AMP (American Muslims for Palestine), to curb our emotional responses to the news cycle and do consistent actions as a 62 year old problem cannot be undone easily AND he urged everyone to pray.

“This is base hypocrisy sending aid to
natural disasters in Haiti while denying aid to people of YOUR man made
disasters…You can turn back a set of boats, but you can’t turn back a set of sound principles. You can deny the Palestinians food, but you can’t deny them the food and medicines that nourish and heal their hearts. If you are sending out boats simply to deny the young and the old and the sick and the weak much-needed aid, you are already DEFEATED, you are already defeated, you are DEFEATED.” Imam Zaid Shakir

Wow. Israel continues to shock the world with it’s actions.

I’d also like to see more non-violent peaceful humanitarian movements that do more things like this. You see this got the attention of the world, not suicide bombings. We should sent boats full of bread, eggs, and chickens to Gaza every month and let Israel continue to terrorize in the name of self-defense.

I pray to God, that more boats of humanitarian aid and food are sailed towards Gaza confronting the terrorist state of Israel’s illegal blockade.

I also hope that this will deteriorate the relationship between Israel and America so instead of sending billions to Israel, it’ll be spent right here in America where it belongs.

Something doesn’t add up, why would the Israeli’s attack them on international waters. Weren’t they headed for Israeli turf soon? If they waited for them to enter their territory it would have been a lot easier to defend taking the ship. Strange..

Definitely a calculated move. Israel is pushing the envelope with each incursion, each attack, each massacre, testing the limits of the ‘international community’. I can’t believe this commando raid was a mistake or some rogue elements in the military (such tragedies rarely are).

Definitely occurred under the watchful eyes of the PR-savvy leadership.

    Are u ppl kidding me???!!!

Dont u know that israel has over the years broken soooo many international laws???

Dont u know that there has been peace talks going on since time immemorable? (and along with their peace talks we are having over brothers and sisters getting cut into pieces??!!)

Im not asking to kill innocent ones….but seriously ppl what do u think the prophet (saw) and his companions would have done at this point? (assuming the military and political power of Muslims aint that strong and assuming there is no unity among the Muslim govts)….

PLZZ!! dont tell me they are gona have PEACE TALKS! CRAP! peace talks are for the parties who really want peace!! more than 5 decades are over and u wana “peace talk??????”

Ofcourse one of the biggest problem is that we Muslims are far away from Quran and Sunnah….and that’s also why we are such big cowards!!

May Allah SWT remove wahn and cowardice from our hearts.ameen!

    • Amir (MR)

      June 1, 2010 at 10:36 AM

It’s a bit more complicated then that. Muslims are divided on the issue of who will rule Palestine. You also have the Shia-Sunni thing which has been part of the History of the ummah even during the time of the Khulafa-ar-Rashidun. So it’s nothing to take lightly. Unity is a dream that will never happen until the Mahdi comes.

There has been peace talks and international law has been broken many times by Israel, but what makes this more relevant is that the international community is tired and starting to not give a damn and speaking out. They realize that Israeli oppression and occupation of Palestinians and Palestine is a main reason for terrorism and terrorist groups like Al-Qaeda.

America, unfortunately is still stubborn. Not the general population but the government. There are literally millions of Americans who want to end the support of Israel so it can be spent right here in America.

InshaAllah time is going against Israel and on the side of the oppressed. Justice will be served, it just may take some time. That’s all.

      • suhail

        June 4, 2010 at 11:57 AM

Just a correction the there was no Shia Sunni divide at the time of Khulafa ar Rashidun. There were only Shia-en-Ali and Shia-al-Muawiyah. They both had the same beliefs and only differed on there ijtihad about the murder of Uthman (RA).

The Shia or the Rawafid of today are not the same Shia of Ali(RA) during his time. They never cursed the Shaiykhain Abu Bakr and Umar or they never accussed the mother of Believers with the things the Rawafid do today. Rather there were many big Sahaba who were from the Shia of Ali(RA) like Ammar bin Yasir(RA).

So comparing them to Rawafid of today is like comparing grapes and Cabbage.

Allah says what means in surat ali Imraan:

137 Many similar ways (and mishaps of life) were faced by nations (believers and disbelievers) that have passed away before you (as you have faced in the battle of Uhud), so travel through the earth, and see what was the end of those who disbelieved.
138 This (the Qur’an) is a plain statement for mankind, a guidance and instruction to those who are Al-Muttaqun.
139 So do not become weak (against your enemy), nor be sad, and you will be superior (in victory) if you are indeed (true) believers.
140 If a wound (and killing) has touched you, be sure a similar wound (and killing) has touched the others. And so are the days (good and not so good), We give to men by turns, that Allah may test those who believe, and that He may take martyrs from among you. And Allah likes not the Zalimun (oppressors and wrongdoers).
141 And that Allah may test (or purify) the believers (from sins) and destroy the disbelievers.

142 Do you think that you will enter Paradise before Allah tests those of you who fought (in His Cause) and (also) tests those who are As-Sabirin (the patient ones, etc.)?

These verses were revealed regarding the Battle of Uhud. Nevertheless some of the themes are relevant today and forevermore.

Those who have lost their lives in the defense and love of the innocent we hope good for them with Allah. Do not lose hope in Allah. Earn His Favour and you shall find success in all that you set out upon.

The Muslims on the day of Uhud learned a simple lesson… a lesson which changes weakness to strength and brings about Allah’s Grace.

    Obey the Prophet (s).

Your ‘amal, prayers and devotions – internally and externally are the KEY to success.

You may not want to hear this now … but sadly my brothers and sisters, let us truly look to our immediate family and close friends and acquaintances. Do we really deserve Allah’s DIVINE HELP.

Do you deserve Allah sending the Malaaika to AID and SUPPORT us?

I am ashamed to admit I feel, at times, unworthy.

‘Umar (r) used to say that we were a humiliated people until Allah honoured us with the Quran. Any time we seek honour in other than it we will be humiliated.

O Allah forgive us for our inability to help our brothers and sisters. I ask Allah to straighten their backs and plant firm their feet and support them from where they least expect it.

O Allah make from us and our children and our children’s children a righteous people. O Allah protect the weak, clothe the destitute and forgive the sinner.

O Allah grant us Peace for your are the Giver of Peace.

You will surely find the most the intense of the people in animosity toward the believers (to be) the Jews and those who associate others with Allaah; Al-Qur’aan 5:82

THE END OF THE JEWISH RACE.
He (Abu Huraira) reported Allaah’s Messenger Sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam as saying, “The Last Hour will not come before the Muslims fight the Jews and the Muslims kill them, so that the Jews will hide behind stones and trees and the stone and tree will say, ‘O Muslims, O servant of Allaah, there is a Jew behind me; come and kill him.’ The only exception will be the box thorn, for it is one of the trees of the Jews.” – Muslim

Evidence of this if anyone wanted to write a comment in the Israeli websites
Does not allow him or be there are many obstacles to prevent him from writing a comment The reasons for Arab-Israeli conflict is the occupation of Palestine in 1948.
Palestine Arab Islamic state like the rest of the Arab and Islamic states surrounding
Them. Means that there are Jews and Zionists in Palestine a big mistake, because this entity
Zionist is not consistent with the surrounding area (such as language, customs, traditions and religion)
The only solution to end the Arab-Israeli conflict is the expulsion of Jews from Palestine
All of Palestine. The Jewish people will not rest and will not feel comfortable and stability
But if it gets out of Palestine and the Middle East completely. If people continue to
Jews in Palestine and the Middle East, the death and destruction will continue.
Palestine Arab Islamic state and will remain
