With all the talk about marriage lately, we thought this would be the appropriate time to post this khutbah by Shaykh Yaser Birjas. This was delivered in Atlanta when Qabeelah Salaam hosted the Love Notes class for AlMaghrib.

Shaykh Yasir Qadhi gave a khutbah at Islamic Foundation masjid in Villa Park, IL last Friday. He was in town to attend the Americal Oriental Society’s 2008 Call For Papers, and when he came in Friday morning came to our local masjid and delivered a khutbah people have been begging for a copy of it to listen to again. Alhumdulillah, with the help of some brothers, we have it here for your listening or downloading pleasure.

BUBBA responds to possible “Honor Killing” in Dallas

What a trip the past two weeks have been? The last week of December as well as the first week of January is usually dead without much going on in the socio-political world I work in. In fact I looked forward to two weeks of unwinding time from the stresses of convention-filled December, reading and reviewing my New Year’s resolutions for 2008. Last week I found myself being called into the office for a TV interview playing the role of “Terrorism Expert” to break down what the Bhutto assassination meant for American Counter-Terrorism efforts in ‘08, and this week in my hometown we had a father “seemingly” lose his mind over his daughters’ social behavior and decided to murder them. No rest for the weary I guess.

I’ve been going back and forth the past two months trying to decide how to approach my first blog posting on MuslimMatters.org, but in the end a voicemail (Lovely Voicemail left at F&J about Islam and Honor Killings) I heard yesterday made that decision for me. New Guest Writer: Nouman Ali Khan!

As many of you heard on the conference call already, MuslimMatters is pleased to announce its newest guest writer, Nouman Ali Khan of the Bayyinah Institute. Bayyinah Institute for Arabic studies has a large student body throughout North America. Br. Nouman’s Fundamentals of Classical Arabic class has been taught in over 30 cities in North America alhamdulillah.

Nouman currently serves as professor of Arabic at Nassau Community College and has taught Modern Standard and Classical Arabic at various venues for nearly 6 years with over 700 students. His handbook published by the Bayyinah Arabic Studies Institute for ARA-201 is also being used as a class aide at the Jaamiah-Al-Uloom Al-Islamiyyah, Institute of Islamic Education in Ajax, Canada.

As many of his students can attest to, Br. Nouman brings a unique flavor of Tafseer and Arabic grammar to the English speaking audience. His classes give us glimpses into many of the linguistic miracles of the Quran - a taste of which you can find here.

We’re also pleased to post this khutbah by Br. Nouman regarding Ghaflah - an excellent khutbah to jump start your Ramadan with.
