What’s In Your Ear? | Yahya Ibrahim Interview

article-image

Bushra, a writer for Muslim Matters interviewed another regular MM contributor Yahya Ibrahim for the second interview in a new occasional weekend series called What’s in Your Ear? In this series we hope to ask Muslims, both ordinary and extraordinary, a few simple questions and record the interviews through audio and/or video.

The questions:

1. What are you listening to?

2. What are you reading?

3. What are you watching?

4.  What technology are you rocking, Mac or PC? Kindle, iPad, Android phone, etc?

5. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received or an advice you have for MM’s readers?

We encourage you to participate in this new series by recording an interview (audio or video) with yourself or someone else, which is generally very easy on most smart phones. Submissions may be sent to info@muslimmatters.org with In Your Ear as the subject header, insha’Allah.

Jazakum’Allah khayran Bushra for taking the initiative and to the shaykh for his cooperation. This was recorded some time ago, as he’s now on Facebook.

      Bismillah,

Alhamdulillah, Sr Ify (or just Ify :) I have made a bound into Facebook…Insha Allah khair. I will be starting a series of status updates that provide a “Tafseer” of various versus from the Quran insha Allah.
This was actually recorded Dec. 2010 in London, UK at a course I do for Al-Kauthar Institute titled World of the Unseen.

We need to think of ways to co-opt with mm twitter perhaps.

Ya Shaykh, I remember after I converted I discovered your lectures online and how they were of great benefit to me in helping me to gain some knowledge of the religion and in strengthening my iman and practice. So, I was delighted to hear that you would be giving the jumu’ah khutbah in Otttawa this past October as I was also in town for a wedding and I’d never heard you speak in person.

Got to the masjid early, set my iPhone to record so I could later post it for others to benefit as I had once benefited, alhamdulillah the television monitors were on and working from behind the wall of the sisters’ side so we had some visual to the khatib. I listened to the familiar words I had heard in so many lectures, “awallin, thaniyah and let us begin so the time is not pulled from underneath our feet.” I think everyone enjoyed the clear focused and concise manner of delivery, elaborating on just a few points, and then I had a technology fail, and the recording did not save. But I just wanted to tell you that your words have reached far and wide, have helped many, and have not gone unappreciated.

      Bismillah,

So who are your 2nd and 3rd favorite speakers ya Akhi?

      :-)

Allahul Mustaan. Thank you for the compliment akhi, I pray Allah accepts from us the little that we do.

mashaAllah, I totally agree with you Amad. Shaykh, your translations always stood out to me as wonderful. Not the typical translations of ayat/hadith we hear, but you capture the meaning perfectly in English without making it sound like a translation. Barak Allahu feek!

I also hope you teach more alkauthar classes in the future inshaAllah, out of sight was my first one and it was fantastic.

Quite refreshing to hear someone not into computers lol.

Masha’Allah, World of the Unseen was AMAZING!! I was so blown away by your translations, your recollection of hadith and their chains and if that wasn’t enough, the way you were able to prove so many things also by using some of the principles of science!

For example – when you asked us what the minor signs of the Day of Judgement were, I was the one who answered that the deserts of the Arabian Peninsula will become green again.

The way you explained the ‘again’ part was soooooooooooooooooooooo mind-blowing, masha’Allah, with the proof being the oil produced in that area. May Allah(swt) increase your knowledge and allow you to continue benefiting us all as well as yourself…Ameen.

It’d be good if someone could upload an mp3 of this and of the other interview with imam suhaib too.
