Jazak Allah khayr, Sister Mariam, for posting this great link yesterday!

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/hamdan-a-yousuf/death-of-a-detroit-imam-l_b_346633.html

This is a fantastic article, mashaAllah, about the killing of Imam Luqman by the FBI in Detroit. The writer is too modest -- mashaAllah, the article is well-written. And the picture that emerges about the Imam fills me with respect for him. May Allah accept the imam as a martyr from among His awliyaa. SubhanAllah, the words of the non-Muslims in the Imam's neighborhood are among the strongest testimony: they killed a man who was known for feeding children.

Think about that. Imam Luqman was not known by name, but he was known by his deeds, Rahmat Allah. And his deeds were not just selfless, he acted to meet the needs of his neighbors.

As Muslims, we truly have a duty to our neighbors, be they Muslim or non-Muslim. Yet, we can get bogged down in so many things. Neglecting our neighbors, even our own families, because we have some project at work or elsewhere that "needs" our attention. And we may even believe strongly that that project serves some greater good. It may be noble. It may be the kind of project that others dream of doing.

Who dreams of feeding his neighbors? Of being loved by his whole community for something like that?

Perhaps we all should.
