If the second wife is not legally recognized then she has no share to the about mentioned assets. This is considered unfairness. Also women have the right to leave a marriage if she does not like the idea of her husband getting married again. Research the story of Fathima RA  and when her husband wanted to marry the daughter of abu  jhal. We as women are to look up to the 4 perfect women in islam. What about if the husband passes away? Only the legal wife will take her full share and the wife with no legal rights will be left empty handed. Heard many stories of this happening, sad but true.
