The best online resources about the Qur’an

Published

Allah swt says in surah Baqarah, verse 185:

شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ الَّذِي أُنزِلَ فِيهِ الْقُرْآنُ هُدًى لِّلنَّاسِ وَبَيِّنَاتٍ مِّنَ الْهُدَى وَالْفُرْقَانِ

The month of Ramadhan [is that] in which was revealed the Qur’an, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion

Let’s use this blessed month to read, understand, memorize, reflect and ponder upon the verses of Allah swt. Alhamdulillah, it is now easier than ever to do it with the help of Internet.

Keep supporting MuslimMatters for the sake of Allah

Alhamdulillah, we're at over 850 supporters. Help us get to 900 supporters this month. All it takes is a small gift from a reader like you to keep us going, for just $2 / month.

Here is a selection of the best resources available about the Qur’an in different topics:

Read:

  • QuranFlash.com: very neat interface. You can turn the page one by one like a real mushaf. You can choose the Madani Mushaf, the Indo-Pak style mushaf, the Mushaf with colored tajweed rules, transliteration, etc.

Memorize:

  • Reciter.org: probably the best website if you want to memorize the Qur’an. You can select a reciter and configure the number of the times the verse has to be recited, the length of the pause, etc. The interface looks like the Madani mushaf, which is much better for the memorization than the regular Arabic fonts
  • EHafiz.com: allows you to download the audio Quran (mp3) that has been divided digitally into tracks/ayahs. So if Baqarah has 286 ayahs, the eHafiz version now has 286 tracks.
  • Memorize-Quran.com: It has mp3’s that are broken up into a few ayahs (usually not more than 5 lines at a time) of quran, so that you can concentrate on those ayat and memorize the one’s you need go over. You can download either husary’s, mishary’s, or alghamidi’s recitations.

Translation:

  • Quran.com: Propose 6 different English translations (including the best one, Sahih International) as well as 19 foreign language
  • Allah’sQuran.com: very complete site with word by word translation, tafseer, recitation, search…
  • Tanzil.info: the translation appears when you move your mouse over an ayat.

Tafseer

  • AlTafsir.com: contains the most known Tafseer books. Be aware that this site contains Tafseer from the Shi’a, and other groups. (Note from Sh. Jamaal Zarabozo’s class: the English translation of Tafseer ibn Abbass was done by a Shi’a group and you find very strange and weird interpretations. This group also did the translation of Jalalayn.)

Audio

  • IslamWay.com: contains probably the largest number of reciters (over 200)
  • HalalTunes.com: awesome way to listen the Qur’an by instant streaming (fastest and easiest way to listen to your favorite reciters without having to download)

Video

Search

  • SearchQuran.net:  search by sura (eg. 1, 2:25-35), or an english, arabic, or phonetic term (eg. ‘bismillahi alrahman’).
  • SearchTruth.com:  in addition to common features, you can search in different language

Arabic

  • Sultan.org: for those who can understand Arabic, please refer to this website for the best resources available

May Allah swt make us amongst those who will read, learn, understand, apply and convey to others the Qur’an.

Please feel free to add your favorite website in the comments.

It has been troubling me for a long while and I’d always come up to the question, “But MM is letting them be displayed… wouldn’t they do something about it if it was unacceptable?” However, we can see it clearly is wrong… Adsense for content has this major drawback! :(

Actually what Sh. Jamaal mentioned in class is that the main problem is the fact that the “tafseer of Ibn Abbas” (tanweer al-miqbaas”) is dubious to begin with and not attributable to Ibn Abbas because there is in the chain someone accused of lying and forgery – Muhammad ibn Saa’ib al-Kalbi.

    Assalam Alaikum,

    Please checkout http://www.ehafiz.com

    What is eHafiz?

Have you ever found yourself looking for a particular ayah from the Quran on a CD or mp3, [usually during memorization] but found it impossible to find it because most surahs are 20+ minutes and one track long?

Some brothers memorizing the Quran ran into the same problem and came up with a simple solution; take a digital/audio version of Quran and divide all the ayahs of the Quran into tracks.

eHafiz.com allows you to download the audio Quran (mp3) that has been divided digitally into tracks/ayahs. So if Baqarah has 286 ayahs, the eHafiz version now has 286 tracks. Simple!

    Assalaamu’alaykum,

This is a really nice list, barakAllahu feek.

I would *definitely* add http://www.memorize-quran.com to the list. It has mp3’s that are broken up into a few ayahs (usually not more than 5 lines at a time) of quran, so that you can concentrate on those ayat and memorize the one’s you need go over. You can download either husary’s, mishary’s, or alghamidi’s recitations.

I would also highly recommend http://www.quranicrealm.com – on top of providing 6 different types of translation (Muhsin Khan, Yusuf Ali, Pickthal, Shakir, Sahih International, Dr. Ghali ), it also has the option of viewing it in transliteration, in arabic (with tashkeel and without tashkeel), and in arabic as an image instead of text. You can search in english, in arabic or phonetically.

Both are amazing resources ma shaa Allah – may Allah reward the people who put all of these sites together! Ameen

    assalam aleikum,

jazak Allahu khairan, you missed a project where many have linked to their site. http://www.versebyversequran.com/site/

everything already split into ayah by ayah with many known recitors and with very good audio quality.

this becomes very valuable to when you want to memorize or review a few ayat at a time.

I just want to know, when muslims will start using the valuable resource of using mp3 tags. I have created my own genre, I call it Quran. Other data like title and artist should be filled in too, this makes whatever you play display relevant info. not a big deal but if you put these mp3 on devices the filename doesn’t appear but rather the title does.

Nowadays, it is quite difficult to access reciter since the website is mostly unavailable.

A fairly decent alternative that displays quran in the same kind of format (but limited options) is http://www.minimuslims.com

It only contains the last 2 Juz of the Quran. But atleast it works on days when you cannot get thru to reciter.org

Juz30 (http://www.imaanstar.com/juz30.php) is one of my favorite apps on the pc for memorization. Has ayah-by-ayah, Arabic, translation, and several reciters to choose from. You can stop at certain points in an individual ayah and play back from segment to segment.

I’ve also found this site really useful, Alhamdulillah. From my experiences, I’d say its a mix of QuranExplorer.com and Quran Flash. It looks like a real mushaf, but unlike Quran Flash, you only get Warsh and Hafs. You can also flip pages, and you don’t really have to zoom in to make the text bigger like you do with quran flash. You could use it for recitation OR memorization.
