I’m also troubled by, not what Senator McCain says, but what members of the party say. And it is permitted to be said such things as, “Well, you know that Mr. Obama is a Muslim.” Well, the correct answer is, he is not a Muslim, he’s a Christian. He’s always been a Christian. But the really right answer is, what if he is? Is there something wrong with being a Muslim in this country? The answer’s no, that’s not America. Is there something wrong with some seven-year-old Muslim-American kid believing that he or she could be president? Yet, I have heard senior members of my own party drop the suggestion, “He’s a Muslim and he might be associated terrorists.” This is not the way we should be doing it in America.

Anyway Collin Powell who has also just endorsed Obama said the same thing about Muslims as Campbell. Alhumdulilah for that. we need people this big to open up and say that being Muslim is not a bad thing.

dude why are u all hating on me. I just said ‘it looks like hes anti jew’ and thats exactly what it looks like. this man who started these rumors about obama also does not like jews. why are you alll so offended with that? you cant accept the fact that a person who might hate muslims also might hate jews? thats aboslutely crazy and being very close minded. i know you are upset but what I said about this man has really nothing to do with all the stuff you are saying. we really need to get rid of this anger and it shows that even in our community there is still hate. you cannot talk bout one thing without someone bring antoerh. eveyrone is not the same. plz let go of the hate. we are all people of the same God .

With regards to the just-released-from-moderation comment by “Anonymous” above (interesting how the haters tend to be most secretive about their identities), a few thoughts and important points:

At first, we moderated this comment, and we planned to delete it.

On second thought, I thought it would be a good idea to release the comment to set it as an example of how hypocritical it is to stereotype. If we Muslims decry stereotyping and hate to be labeled with pejorative terms, we have to then maintain the same standard with respect to other groups and communities. Just because one or more Jews said something about their nation, does not imply that it is the standard we judge their entire nation with. This is no different from someone picking up descriptive statements (about Muslims) from Bin Laden or on the opposite side, Tarek Fatah, and then apply this to all the Muslims, claiming, “well, Muslims say that about themselves”.

MM will not accept or allow such rhetoric, whether it be about Muslims or about others, whether it be of the conspiratorial nature or of the accusative nature, that is not backed with facts. If you want to talk about certain issues, about certain elements of the groups, like about their radical elements, or about their right-wing elements, or their neocon elements, that is one thing. But to paint the entire nation with a wide brush is something we don’t tolerate for ourselves, and we shouldn’t tolerate for others.
