MuslimMatters Endorses CAIR for Ramadan’s Charity of Choice

We urge all brothers and sisters to join and support CAIR. We believe that CAIR is one of the most important organizations for Muslims in America. We believe that CAIR is fighting the battle for every Muslim’s civil rights in America.

Without CAIR, many more would not have cared (about Muslims). And the rising Islamophobia may have been worse. We know that this is true because CAIR has become the prime target to silence for the right-wingers and the Islamophobes (see the articles linked to below). So, the question is if YOU want to be part of the solution to SAVE CAIR, or if you want to be one of the silent bystanders in letting the right-wingers shut another of our organizations down. How many more will it take before we realize the effort that is in the works to silence the Muslim voice?

Is this post supposed to be satire? Or did someone hack into mm?

MM has always supported CAIR and inshallah will continue to do so. This thread will not be hijacked to discuss cair’s weaknesses or shortcomings because there isn’t one organization that does not have some. But unlike some organizations that hold foreign interests over american interests (e.g. Aipac), and despite the slander and defamation of CAIR by ADL-national (an organization I used to respect that still nevertheless has upright chapters), CAIR is committed to the civil rights of Muslims in America.

So, solomon, maybe another thread another day, but we aren’t arguing about cair on this one. Its only for highlighting the goods of CAIR and for encouraging fair-minded individuals to support an outfit that seeks to protect our liberties. So pls excuse my liberty in moderating this thread heavily.

So, let me start by saying that I signed up with my support to CAIR. Who else is joining me?

Amad, my two questions did not impugn CAIR. They referred to the seriousness, identity, and ethical judgment of those who endorse CAIR.

Since you acknowledge yet don’t wish to discuss CAIR’s “weaknesses and shortcomings”, as you put it, then one must ask directly, “Why should anyone donate to this organization until CAIR’s problems have been mended, or at least progress of some sort made at mending them? Perhaps donating to another organization would be more useful?”

I am not familiar with the current state of the ADL-AIPAC partnership. From your comments I presume ADL-national has now judged that CAIR is a poor vehicle for supporting civil rights in America.

As for your swipe at AIPAC – this is “Muslim Matters”, so I will stick to its spirit and not take up your invitation for a digression.

Solomon2, I promise you there will be an opportunity to discuss AIPAC… when I start posting reviews and points from the “Israel Lobby”. I appreciate your patience.

Jak, I fully support this endorsement, CAIR is the frontline of defense for the Muslim community. To support CAIR is to support the Muslim community. Keep up the great work, MM and CAIR,

Amad says we can’t “discuss cair’s weaknesses or shortcomings” here.

    salaam aleikum,

there is no denying that there are sincere Muslims and people in nearly every Islamic organization. However, that being said some of the actions these groups take end up doing more harm than good to Muslims the world over.

    Your statement here:

    >But unlike some organizations that hold >foreign interests over american interests.

doesn’t just apply to Israel-first groups like ADL and AIPAC (which have been well written about by the new book by Mearsheimer and Walt “The Israel Lobby”) but *does* apply to some of the actions and statements uttered by CAIR senior figures and others connected to “American” Muslim activism i.e. Muslims in America come BEFORE Muslims overseas and damn what the shar’iah says about unity. All you have to do is look at some of the actions and statements post 9/11 to start seeing some patterns.

    salaam aleikum,
    skh
